Sub £30 HSF for E8400.

Thinking of doing a mild overclock on my E8400, currently using the stock cooler, and got to 3.4Ghz (Prime stable - 30mins so not brilliant, no crash but I didn't like the temp) before the 60degC got a little uncomfortable for my tastes - I'm sure I could push it further with the stock cooler but I'd rather keep things below 55degC.

Running a P5Q-E with all RAM slots occupied (4x2gb sticks), so I'm a little worried the larger HSF's will interfere due to how close the RAM slots are and the heatsinks/heatpipes around the CPU socket. Using an Antec 900v1 - fans on low, so I've got plenty of airflow.

Also I'm looking for a very quiet solution, got a 3-speed Antec 120mm sitting around so being able to use that would be nice, as on 'low' its the perfect 'noise' for me.

Suggestions appreciated.

It is only just sub £30 but the Xigmatek S1283.

Absolutely brilliant, and on my DFI board still allows all the RAM slots to be populated.

I use a Zerotherm Zen on my overclocked c2d and it keeps it below 35 degrees. It's very quiet with the stock fan so it would probably be near-silent with a better one. Cheap and cheerful

Almost any heat pipe tower cooler based around a 120mm fan would be fine.

The Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - is an ideal match for a dual core CPU and it has a PWM-controlled 92mm fan. At £18 @ scan it's a good price for a very popular and efficient HSF.

However they are often not that quiet esp when underload and overclocked.

It's a real shame Scythe no longer make the Mine, that would of been a great choise.

Haha, decided my budget could stretch a little further!

The fan I'll be using : Antec Tri-Cool 120mm.

I'm hoping I'll be able to run it on 'low'.

Not looking forward to taking my rig apart to install it though.

*edit - Slightly worried I won't be able to use all 4 RAM slots too, although my mobo is listed as fully compatable on the Thermalright website.

Installed and working brilliantly. Temps are a good 15degC cooler than the stock HSF.

The Tri-Cool on low is great too.

Well, tbh,
You could probably run it fanless and still get better temps than the stock cooler......
If you have that much cooling, why not clock it more, 3.8+ im thinking,
