NVidia GPU problems from a while back?

Anyone got anything from NVidia saying it was there fault?

Mate of mines got an HP laptop with the 8x00 series gfx card in it, the thing has now died.
HP have extended warranty programs in place for several of there laptops that use this gpu but not the specific one my friend has, this means he cant take it back to PCWorld and get a new one under the HP warranty, so, the idea is to find something from NVidia saying that this GPU has an inherant fault and get a replacement that way.

    Anyone?

Re: NVidia GPU problems from a while back?

I don't know of anything specific (and tbh I doubt NVidia would do anything like that), but I'd be interested in they have because the GeForce 6100 graphics in my Compaq have died recently (2.5 years old, but it was warranty repaired 18 months ago) and I suspect it's a weakness in the chips...

Re: NVidia GPU problems from a while back?

Well, a quick google may be your friend... here's one story that certainly confirms there was an inherent heat issue with the 8400M and 8600M. Whether that's enough to make a case for replacement / repair is another matter...

Here's a good place to start if you want anti-nVidia "journalism", including faults with the 8 series:

The comments are hysterical - fanbois at war!
