    24" dell monitor problem

When I plug my dell monitor s2409w into my laptop via VGA I am able to run it at full resolution... 1900x1080 or whatever... the picture is perfect though!

when I plug the same monitor into my dell dimension with a nvidia 7900GS the max that it will run at is 1400x900 or something... the picture on here is really blurred and just doesn't look right.

How can I get my s2409w running to its full potential with my desktop pc?

    cheers

Have you got the latest Nvidia drivers for the graphics card? Failing that you might need to install drivers for the monitor.

Or you could set up a custom resloution in the nvidia control panel
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

    Re: 24" dell monitor problem

    Hi,

This sounds like a driver issue to me, Try the latest Nvidia driver:

    nvidia.com/object/winxp_182.08_whql

(sorry I dont have enough posts to paste that as a link, cut and paste ftw!)

I also have the older version of this monitor, and agree that native resolution is always best!

If this still doesent work, look for the driver cd that came with the monitor, and make sure as suggested above that the monitor drivers are installed.

Also it might be worth trying a different cable to see if it is picked up that way, mine works with either the dvi-d or a d-sub, but the dvi-d cable is a newer standard so might give more information about the monitors supported modes to the pc? I know that I get different resolution options for my samsung TV in the nvidia control panel if I connect with HDMI than if I connect with D-sub...

    Hope this helps

    Re: 24" dell monitor problem

I've installed the new nvidia drivers and had a fiddle with resolutions... Now i seem to have 1920x1200 which looks perfectly clear but I have to "move around" the screen to see the entire screen. When I add resoultions in nvidia manager it doesnt seem to keep them.

would also be worth getting driver sweeper, uninstall the video driver, run driver sweeper and then reinstall it.

    Re: 24" dell monitor problem

I've reinstalled driver/graphics drivers a number of times.

I don't see why it goes straight into 1920x1080 when I plug it into my laptop, but with the PC it goes to 1920x1200 !!

    Re: 24" dell monitor problem

Have you tried a dvi connection yet? HDTV resolutions might be more likely to show over dvi as its basically the same as hdmi... you might be able to fool the control panel into thinking its an HDTV and letting you chose 1080p as a res...

    Just a thought.

what about Nvidia control panel, in video & television settings changing the signal to 1080P? is this what you already tried?
