Hi, just put together my new build today and im wondering what settings i need to overclock my E8400. I have an Asus P5q pro mobo and 4gb of OCZ gold (5-5-5-18 800mhz) and an akasa ak 965 cooler.

    Re: E8400 overclocking help needed

Well its hard to provide a give bunch of "settings" because each board is different however make sure before you continue you have turned on vdroop control/loadline calibration. Then disable the following:

    Speedstep
    C1E
    ALL Speed spectrums

You also want to set your pcie frequency to 100mhz if it is on auto and set the nb/sb pipeline or whatever it is called to 200mhz. Some times when oc'ing these also get raised by the bios and can cause complications and random problems when being higher - they offer no real benefit being higher.

EDIT: dshepsman's link would be a really good place to start as well ^^

    Re: E8400 overclocking help needed

Cheers for the advice, manages to oc to 3.6ghz with idle temps of 30-36 degrees c but then the crazy part after running prime 95 for a while the temp rose to 85 degrees c!!!! The heatsink is seated properly and is running at just under 600rpm could this be a software issue? I have not re-formatted after installing new hardware.
