    Biostar TF7050 M2: 2 issues

    Hi There,

    I have a Biostar TF7050 M2 motherboard and I have 2 issues at present.

On a cold boot it always has the following error, "Disk Boot Error Please Insert System Disk And Press Enter". If I just hit the reset switch at that point the machine will actually boot without any bother at all. I've checked the Bios and it's set to only look for the HDD as the Boot device. I only have 1 disk installed in this current set up. I've disabled floppy seek.

Additionally I have a 2nd issue. I have an Optiarc 1710 DVD writer. The behaviour for this is quite erratic. If the SATA cable is plugged in it might work. However it might also cause the system to take a long time to load. Also, when the system is running, I might find that the PC periodically hangs. According to the event viewer EventIDs 7 and 9 are logged. These are logged for atapi. I've done a little digging about this and he only microsoft article about it relates to scsi - not the sata drive that I have. It's very confusing. I've flashed the firware up to the the latest version.

    So:

The motherboard appears to work fine. It just has this weird boot error. And it behaves absolutely fine once it's running.

I have a DVD writer that appears to be faulty.

The common thread between them all appears to be the SATA channels. I've flashed the Bios up to the last version released for the mobo. No joy.

Does anyone have any advice (short of buying new kit)?

The DVD writer may just be faulty and it would be trivial to get a replacement. I'll do that this weekend just to make sure. However that would still leave the cold boot problem.

Have you tried getting new SATA cables?? Shuttle supplied some dodgy SATA cables with their barebones which caused issues. Also try flashing your DVD rewriter to its latest available stable firmware version.

Yes, I've should have mentioned that. It was actually the first thing I tried. I also tied moving to different SATA connectors on the Mobo.

Actually buy some new ones. The cables themselves could be faulty.

Edit: you actually have after re-reading your reply. Sorry bout that!!

Also try setting the SATA modes to different ones too. Sometimes changing it to SATA only may help.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I have already bought new cables.

Apart from changing the SAT mode(perhaps to enhanced or SATA only) or flashing the DVD re-writer firmware to the latest version the only thing to do would be to see if you have the same issues with DVD re-writer not plugged in.

I have to confess that I've not considered changing the SATA mode. I'll check. I bet it's set to IDE mode.
