    Samsung laser printer ML range

    Does anyone know what the difference between the laser printer Samsung ML-2850D and ML-2850DR is ?

    I want to order one of them, but which one ? They seem to be identical, no ?

    Besides this, I wonder if the Samsung ML-2855ND would be the better choice ?

    Re: Samsung laser printer ML range

    No idea on the difference between the 2850D and 2850DR but the 2855ND is network ready (hence the "N" in the model so if you have more than one computer to print from this woulod be better. ALso the 2855 replaces the 2850 so you would be better off going for the later model - the price difference (which is about £60) is only worth it if you need the built in network capability

    The ND has, hence the N. But there is also a network version of the ML-2850D existing, called ML-2850ND.

    ... Do they have different print speeds, ...
    No, they haven't. Both have a print speed of 28 ppm according to the specifications, and up to 30 ppm in real life.

    ... and/or different toner capacities? What does it cost to buy a replacement toner cartridge, ...
    Toner capacities are the same on both models.

    Toner for ML-2850D

    ML-D2850B = 5000 pages = £60.48 / $84.95
    ML-D2850A = 2000 pages = £39.12 / $54.95

    Toner for ML-2855ND

    MLT-D2092L = 5000 pages = £64.96 / $92.88
    MLT-D2092S = 2000 pages = £45.51 / $65.07

    Found those prices via Google but they differ very much from shop to shop.

    ... and a replacement drum?
    The drum is included in the toner kit.

    ... What are their estimated duty lifespan?
    Up to 50.000 pages monthly.

    Re: Samsung laser printer ML range

    Alright, for those who're interested ... nobody seem to know this, not even any of the technical departments of the retailers who actually sell it.
    Here is the answer from Samsung directly:

    D = duplex
    R = relaunched

    So, the DR version is a relaunched version of the D version.
    And now I have written another email to Samsung, asking them to specify the reasons for the relaunch, duh !

    The duplex printing - if it's automatic, would be awesome. I also would opt for the network version; if the cost is reasonable. Do they support any/all of these in Linux and/or Mac, as well as Windows?

    That's the beast. Not quite as pretty to look at as the later offering but, Incredibly reliable. I bought it to replace an ink-jet that was always clogging the nozzles up. Soo much cheaper to run than ink jet, It still has the original toner cartridge in it and will print first time it's used, even if it has not been used for weeks.
