Interesting figures about X2 5050e power consumption!

It would be nice if they had tested the processors against the X2 7750+,e5200 and E2200 as these are actually in a similar price range to the X2 5050e. The tests were done with 780G and G45 based motherboards.

You're right that it's a shame they weren't compared against similarly priced processors. All that article really shows is that Core 2 based processors have a huge performance margin over K8 Athlons and that the G45 chipset + Core 2 draws a bit less power than a 780G (which has a much more powerful graphics core) + an Athlon - hardly a surprise...

I still feel quite happy about my decision to pop one of these into a budget gaming build for a friend recently

I suppose perhaps they should have also compared the X2 5050e to the 65nm dual core Celerons too. It would interesting to see how the 45nm Athlons will fare though.

Another thing is the cost of the motherboards too . G45 based motherboards are not exactly cheap like the 780V/780G or 8200/8300 based motherboards either!! Perhaps they should have used motherboards based on the G31,G41 and Nvidia 7000 series chipsets as these are in the same price range.
