    AM3 Motherboard advice

Anyone know when the next gen AMD chipset is out, RD890 I belive?, Looking to go quad core and the AM3 chips look the best value at the moment (Could just buy a core 2 quad but that means on the next upgrade ill still have to get DDR3 so thinking of doing a full upgrade this time round, mobo ram and CPU).
Looking at going for the 910 AM3 cPU when its out but just waiting on mobos now.

Im more or less in the same boat as you, but I'm waiting another 3-4 months, and then I will surely upgrade, as I hope DDR3 prices and mobo prices will be down by then.

    Re: AM3 Motherboard advice

AM3 motherboards are out now of course, based on the 790-series chipsets: so if you're impatient you could build now on something like this cheapish Gigabyte 790X AM3 (ebuyer have a couple of AM3 board even cheaper than that one) and then just upgrade the mobo when the new chipsets come out...

    Re: AM3 Motherboard advice

Will be needing Matx so will have to wait for DFI to bring out a lanparty JR board or maby Asus will do a MATX ROG board, the 790 chipset is good but if the 8xx series are out soon then it seems better for me to wait
Not overly impatiant but if the new chipsets are not out untill Q4 for example ill just get the 790 AM3 DFI Lanparty JR board thats just around the corner

Ah, I feel your frustration. Given that a few vendors have done 780G with sideport or 790GX ATX with one x16 slot, there's no reason not to release a 790GX with sideport and a single x16 slot in mATX form factor, retailing at £80 - £90. If someone did one I'd buy one. It can't be long before we see mATX AM3 boards though: I'd guess they'll come out alongside the L3 cache-less Deneb-based Athlons...

    Re: AM3 Motherboard advice

Theres good MATX mobos out there, just have to know where to look

If the 8xx series is going to take a while ill go for the Lanparty JR 790GX-M3H5.
