    Dead WD external?!

    Hey guys,
Bought an external the other day.
I plugged it in, copied things over, all was fine.

Unplugged it, rebooted the PC, copied over the rest of my files. Then I shutdown the PC without ejecting it from the removable hardware menu.

Formatted, turned the PC on, and tried to power on the HDD and its dead :|

No power to it, doesnt turn on now.
All my work is on that too...

I tried different power sockets, different usb slots.
Did a reversal of what I last did; so I turned the PC off, connected it up (usb and power), and then turned the PC on. Still nothing.

    Any suggestions?
I REALLLLY need the data off that drive
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Re: Dead WD external?!

Try removing the disk from the external enclosure and plug it into your computers SATA port directly and see if your BIOS can initialise it. Often it's the enclosure itself that becomes faulty, rather than the disk. This may (or probably will) void the warranty of the external if you try it, so try to get the nod from WD after explaining the problem.

Yea, would have to break the enclosure open though

I'd have to contact WD directly then?

    Thanks

Try replacing the power supply? I've had a friend that have a failed power supply, causing the drive not to spin up.
