    Amilo 1705

I was at an auction house today, and was rather surprised to find a lot consisting of a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 1705 laptop, Office 2007 Home and Student and a Lexmark all in one printer among the usual heap of antiques and general junk, all unopened. I'm fairly sure that I'll be able to get it for a song, and therefore wondered what people think would be a reasonable price to pay. The specs are as follows:
    • Celeron M 440
    • 512MB RAM
    • 80GB HDD
    • Vista Basic

I was thinking that I could get a Core 2 T5500 and 2GB of RAM for about £120 from Scan, and therefore bring it up to a semi decent spec, especially if I stick Ubuntu on it in a dual boot config; I'll only be using it for note taking at school, light websurfing and as a rather oversized MP3 player for while I'm working.
How easy do you think it would be to execute such an upgrade (I've built my own desktop, but have never owned or ventured inside a laptop). Given the specs, what do you think the maximum I should bid for it is? I'd also be interested to hear the views of anyone who owns one.

EDIT: Also, am I right in thinking that I could safely overwrite the recovery partition on it and use an OEM Vista HP disc to reinstall Vista Basic should I need to do so?

    Re: Amilo 1705

Laptops are not that hard to figure out as I have upgraded and assemble a few myself.

If the notebook is new or barely used I think that under £150 would be not too bad a deal TBH especially if it comes with the Office 2007 version you are talking about. If the discs are included it can be installed on 3 separate computers IIRC and is worth at least £50 on its own!!

    Re: Amilo 1705

I assume that the warranty would be invalid in my case, so what are Fujitsu Siemens like for reliability?

I'll be placing my bid soon, so any more thoughts would be appreciated.
