Which fans are you running the standard Antec 120's?

They're Antec Tri-cools IIRC. Quiet at slow, not so quiet on high. If slow is enough cooling for you then they're fine.

There were some filters on Scan IIRC too. Anything that fits a 120mm fan will do. The top fan blows out and so doesn't need a filter, but cover it up when/if you switch the PC off.

Re: What fan filters fit in an antec 900?

Thanks but i bought some akasa filters which were advertised to be for 120mm fan but the holes do not line up with the pins on the fans and they are too thick to fit under the mesh at the front of the case. What fans would be better for cooling? Bearing in mind i am fine with the noise levels on low but any higher than that the noise gets a bit much imo.

Mine are held in place between the mesh at the front and the fans. It was a tight squeeze but it means they are held securely. To clean I just stick a vacuum to the front. I used two of these: Chilled PC - Watercooling made easy, Over 400 products in stock

I used these exact ones but in silver from Scan (more expensive) and they didn't stand out on the front of my case iirc. I too vacuumed the front when it had dust on it

Re: What fan filters fit in an antec 900?

As far as fans go, Xigmatech appear to be well-liked these days. I'm very happy with Scythe S-Flex but the Xiggys have it on price. I'd suggest 1600-2000 rpm and a method of controlling the speed or stick to 1200rpm as the best compromise between quiet and airflow.

Not really noticeable, except when it gets dusty it will appear more gray. My room is a bit of a dump by the way so apologies about that. Although you did encourage me to tidy it as much as I could so thanks

Very nice, I think I might get 2 of those. Do you have one on the back 120mm fan as well?

    Anytime

Nah, just two on the intakes, although I intend to get one for the side as well because at the minute it is basically an intake due to more air going out than going in

Re: What fan filters fit in an antec 900?

I forgot to order some filters for the 900 when I ordered it, or was it that I didn't know there were any filters at the front, anyhow, was in a rush to get it built the day I received the components and used mesh tool from a cloth store.

As educatedfool has said, when it gets dusty it becomes gray. Have been a bit time consumed to clean out the dust, but will take into consideration educatedfool's suggestion of vacuuming it out from the front. Having seen the picture of the case with the filters fitted, I like the way the mesh tool is unnoticeable. Must say though, it's given excellent results for the 65p I spent on the square metre, still have more than 3/4's left.

Question Re: What fan filters fit in an antec 900?

Thanks for the comments so far. (Like the '900' btw - V nice.)

    (Questions below, in bold.)

In my case, I've got four 120mm and two 80mm fans.

I've got Mountain Mods fan "guards" on these fans, atm. They're not really guards though - they have massive, gaping holes that even the largest of fingers could fit through.

I've thought about replacing these with filters:
    • On the one hand you stop anyone hurting there fingers - I've got young cousins.
    • Also, you (obviously) stop a lot of dust entering your case.

    However,
    • If you have neons in your case, the filter would not allow light to "escape" to the same extent that guards would.

Mountain Mods (US) stocks a blue filter, that appeals to me. The product looks good[/URL]:

It would allow light out (by the looks of it), would stop fingers getting hurt and would block some dust - seems perfect... However, BitsPower's (manu') website doesn't show it. Also, it doesn't mention any UK suppliers. (Bit of a rubbish site, really.)

    Anyone know any (similar) alternatives?

Failing the above, I'd considered getting some "Atomic"-style black (or uv) guards at the front of the fans, and ALSO standard dust filters at the rear of the fans.

    I.e. Components ... Filter | Fan | Guard

If I turned the neons on that I have inside the case, they wouldn't shine through so well, but the lights on my fans would be visible. The Atomic Guards have smaller gaps than my current guards (i.e. the Mountain Mods), so better for fingers. Also, less dust would get inside the case.

To me, this seems like a good option.

What do you think? (Also, would I get a guard AND a filter onto one fan?)

    Appreciate your thoughts.

Re: What fan filters fit in an antec 900?

From what I gather, you have both neons and LEDS on fans. Do they LED's not drown out most of the neon light through the fan? I'm just having a guess here as I don't have neons.

The dust filter's won't have too much effect on the light shining through, especially in low light conditions when it will be most noticeable anyway.
