    Printers

Printer has broked, so we need a new one. Not sure which one to get, but under £100, photo, and boarderless, A4, LAN(not neccecary, but would be nice). A3 would also be nice, scanner also not neccary, but nice. Thx, Will

    Re: Printers

You'll struggle to get a half-decent A3 printer under £100 new. I'm not even sure if you'll get any A3 printer under £100.

The Canon Pixma iP4xxx series (essentially all the same, but just bumped up a model each year, iP4600 being the latest) are generally considered the best photo printers in that price range, but they don't have built-in LAN.

One of them and some Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl paper (Smooth Gloss is good too, but that's just too glossy in my opinion) make a hard combination to beat at that price range. There are printer profiles and instructions available for each paper type and most printers (the iP4xxx series included) at the Ilford website.

Obviously stick with original cartridges for photo prints.

You could always get a print server at some point, but I've no idea how well these work.

    Re: Printers

I would also look as some of the printers HP you have in your price range such as the D7360 which has a touchscreen and integrated card reader and the HP Deskjet 6980 which has WiFi and ethernet built in.

The HP 6980 has got good reviews and costs £110:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Deskjet-6980.../dp/B000EZ7Y6Y

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/110559

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/HP-De...printing-36ppm

They both use a 6 ink system with dye based colour and pigment based black inks. I believe the Canons still use a 5 ink system.

HP Deskjet 6980 has been out for a while but this indicates it must a very good and very popular printer!! For example the Epson R800 had been out since 2004 and is considered an excellent printer by many photographers even though its price has hardly dropped in all these years!!

My HP 8450 produces excellent pictures and they have lasted the better part of three years on the wall behind class with no visible fading at all!!

    Edit!!

The HP 6980 uses the same print cartridges as my HP 8450:

    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en...74-468002.html

This also means that the print heads are integrated into the cartridges too!! As far as I know older Canons had fixed print cartridges which were integrated into the printer which meant that they could wear out eventually. Not sure with the newer ones though.
