By all accounts it is a good CPU for the price. Being a Black Edition it will be multiplier unlocked. so easy to overclock.
The X2 7750+ is based on the original Phenom architechure so it will be faster clock for clock when compared to your existing processor. The unlocked multiplier will mean that you should be able to get upto 3ghz at least.
The X2 7750+ at stock speed is faster than X2 6000+ so it will be a good speed increase. The only thing is that the processor has greater power consumption than even an X2 6000+ so you will need to check if your motherboard will be able to support it!
Sounds very tempting and the board can definitely take it (although i'm thinking of upgrading that anyway)
Why do you want to upgrade the board? Might be a good idea to post what set up you have and what your using it for, Then someone could advise you how to get the best performance for the least cash.Quote:

AMD MA770 S3, only 1 pci graphics slot. I'm thinking of an Asus M3N72-D to give myself the second PCI graphics slot.
Also have SoundBlaster X fi, 2 Seagate 320gb and dvd rw.
I think that's everything.
Edit: As for usage, games of course! Crysis/DOW2. Very tempted by Far Cry 2.

I would also look at getting a Phenom II X3 720 or X4 920 as FarCry 2 makes use of triple and quad cores. Alternatively an X3 710 will do the job too.
The Phenom II X3 720 has an unlocked multiplier so it should be easier to overclock.
You may have to upgrade the BIOS on your motherboard but is should work as the current Phenom II processors are listed as being compatible on the Gigabyte webpage for your motherboard.
I would definitely look at getting a decent 500w to 600w PSU though to replace your existing one.
I was thinking of as much as an 850W if need to buy one. Build in some forward expandability!

hmm seems to me that cat-the-fith has a point, the 7750 is a bit underpowered for a 275, especially in sli. am using a AMD 720x3 atm and have to say its amazingly good for games for the price. would be a better buy than the 7750. even a 710x3 would be a better option. are you definitly going AMD?
Yes, motherboard is AM2+ and i wont change it unless i have to.
