Just attach it externally with a NAS or HDD enclosure?

Sounds like your best option is some kind of network drive, thats the only way i can see you having the same drive connected to multtiple pc's. It depends what you want to use it for whether this would be suitable or not.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

Re: is this possible

Possible I guess. You could hack yourself a custom SATA cable with two ends and a switch in between.

I wouldn't advise it though.

Why 'back up' an encrypted drive that uses a proprietary connection unless it is for illegal reasons???

Only way you should move data around the hard drives on the 360 is with the data transfer kit. You really don't need to move anything else. For sharing a drive use a NAS or DAS with multiple USB connections.

Please check your spelling as well. It's not nice having to read posts with poor spelling and no punctuation.

Re: is this possible

If you have downloaded lots of media (LEGALLY) like trailers, demos and whatnot and you don't want the hassle of downloading them all over again? Your accusation implies that you should never touch the hard drive for anything but MS downloads unless you need to buy a new 360 (which is the only point that i can see of the transfer kit). The transfer kit is also incredibly restricted by what is basically DRM, you can only copy from a hard drive once, you can't copy stuff from a 120GB to a 20GB, the small drive is erased once you're done, etc. Now you may say "well, uh, piracy?" but consider that the PS3 lets people swap out their drives without any issues.

And of course some people use their 360 for playing music and movies and so on (in the US you can download TV shows afaik via netflix), maybe they want to back it up?

And what if he's only got a 20gig or even a 12gig but wants to get more stuff on there without having to fork out large sums of money for an extra hard drive (£80+ or <£5 for a cable..)? With a back-up type tool you can switch the data around more easily.

I may be playing devil's advocate, but that seemed a bit unnecessarily harsh.

@ the OP: what's wrong with: http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/10678/...ckUp-Solution/?

But surely if it's a 360 drive then just plug it into your PC and have done with it?

Yes, any purchased content is linked to the console, demos still have DRM. Only difference between an arcade demo and a full game is usually a key that says it is full, hence why you can 'unlock' some games without downloading more.

Plug in an external HDD, the console supports reading them for media

As for Netflix, it is streaming not download. PC only download (again DRM on there)

Or a memory card.

Point is the stuff is encrypted for a reason, especially with the NXE and the option of ripping a game to the HDD to cut down on the disc reading there is an image of the game on the disc which is a security risk
