Well the plan was to get 8GB of 8500 aha
and i know it will support the AM3 processors but we are talking about whether it will allow you to unlock the 4th core of an x3, thus turning it into an x4. Have you been able to do this?
Also in regards to the OCZs crazy cooling, i dont think it does much, if anything tbh, does look cool tho lol, not sure if its worth more over the kingston tho - i do wonder if maybe the crazy cooling would become useful if you raised the voltages, but i doubt i would bother doing this tbh.
BTW, i shouldnt be considering a skt775 intel upgrade should i?? It doesnt seem to offer such good value and the socket is about to be phased out right??
Cheers
EDIT: Is it better to have 5-5-5-18 timings @ 2.1v or 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2v??
Have you managed to unlock the fourth core yet or even see it?? In the J&W forums they say that they cannot get the motherboard to see the fourth core let alone unlock it stably.
Here is the thread:

I believe that a Hexus member(Sputnik) has said that the latest BIOS cannot still see the fourth core.
If you can do this please let everyone know as it will be useful!!
It could be that the newest boards have a tweaked bios???
1. I didnt know there were PSU available where you could do that.Quote:
ive set the PSU to split rails which made no difference
2. Why would you anyway as a PSU, if supplying enough amps, is more stable if its single rail anyway.
I would go the AMD route TBH. I think in the £100 to £160 price range AMD has some very cometitive CPUs. Regarding the timings if the motherboard can support the higher voltage RAM then go for it otherwise go for the other one. It means that the RAM will run slightly hotter though if the voltage is higher.
Is it not better to have it running at the lower volatages stock and then ramp up the voltage if desired to lower the latency? Or does voltage not affect latency?
The other thing i was going to ask is what are the best CPU coolers around these days so i can get a good OC but remain quiet. I have an AC freezer 7 pro ATM but im guessing i might need more cooling power?
Cheers, Neil.
I never overclock RAM TBH and keep it at stock voltages and within the specifications. I hate issues with RAM!!
Regarding the cooler, the Phenom II does run less hotter than its predecessors so I would think that the Arctic Freezer 64 should be enough. The Phenom II X4 supposedly comes with a great stock cooler though unlike the Phenom II X3. However be careful that you do not spend too much on a cooler otherwise you might as well look at getting a Phenom II X4 instead.
Ok ill keep the AC freezer pro then, if temps get high i can always change the fan or change the whole thing later on.
And i found this ram at scan on today only which would do me a treat :)
