Finaly ideas on new build??

Hi All,

Been asking a lot of questions on here recently, trying to get a good idea on what I want to get for my new system.

Just wanted some thoughts on the build. Anything you would change, if you were me

Core i7 920 (Maybe wait for the 950? but either way im goin to oveclock to justify the cooler)
Asus Rampage II Extreme
Corsair 850W HX
Corsair Dominator memory 1600mhz
bfg GTX280 (already own, maye either get another one OR buy the gtx295)
Coolermaster HAF 932
Coolermaster v10 cooler

The rest of the junk e.g. hard drives and BD drive dont really need mention...

Any thoughts?

Vertex SSD perhaps? Just feel like it's well worth recommending since it will make far more difference to the general speed of loading than a faster CPU will.

Apart from that, seems okay. PSU might be a bit overkill, but then if you're wandering into GTX 295 territory, perhaps not. Also you've missed out a few things, like the quantity of RAM you were considering.

Hmm, think vertex SSD would tip me over my budget tbh. Would be awesome though...

It'll be 6GB of that Dominator RAM.

I'm taking a pretty big step up with this upgrade. I've never really bothered before (part from the gtx280) atm i have 2 GB of OCZ gold 800mhz, 5600+ Athlon X2... dont even know what the Mobo is any more, lol.

Wanted to step over to intel a long time ago as i heard that intel and nVidia worked together better than Athlon nVidia... Might have been B*****ks but i'm sold by the idea of an i7

Just wanted to ask - why are you interested in getting a second GTX 280? Is it really going to make that much of a difference to your gaming performance? I'm presuming you don't game at 2560x1600 resolution - if you do, then fair enough.

I'd pick an SSD over a second graphics card any day of the week - 60GB Vertex currently &#163;178, it's cheaper than a GTX 280 - then again, I've developed an SSD fanaticism.

By the way, just thought I'd mention that the Hexus rules don't permit swearing, even with asterisks, in case you didn't see them.

Tbh im not sure whether i'll need the second GPU yet either. I'm just keeping the option open in case i find a game that's still demanding more.

Ideally I want everything to run smooth, with full graphics. and i generally want a quick computer to make work easy. I'm not going to get anything i dont need, as i dont have the money, and i dont particularly care about braggin right.

A friend of mine recently nabbed a second GTX 295... obviously a noticable change in performance... but nothing that you could notice without seeing the numbers.

BTW where can i go to get the best instructions on overclocking an i7?
I've never done it but I want to learn, and have a go on my new setup...
