They don't really need to be great overclockers given that the chip has an unlocked multi. I'm sure that one is up for some overclocking and it has a fantastic feature set, especially if it were to become the basis of an HTPC later.
The 780G motherboard which staffsMike recommended is pretty decent.
If you can stretch your budget a bit you can either of these two 790GX motherboards:

They have the enhanced SB750 southbridge which will be better for overclocking. Also they have the ability to unlock the fourth core of the Phenom II X3 720 if it is stable.
Is it better to get the Biostar TA790GX or the J&W??
The Biostar boards only have 4 phase power management. The J&W is 5+1 phase.Quote:

i think that is correct yes , as for replacing my mobo would it be better saving and going am3/ddr3 seeing as i already have the am3 cpu . i do not want to replace it for at least a year tbh (spending to much on the system tbh)Quote:

The Biostar 790GX motherboards are able to unlock the fourth core on the Phenom II X3 720(if it is stable) whereas the J&W 790GX cannot at the moment according to the J&W website forums and users on Hexus. The Biostar 790GX motherboards are decent for overclocking it seems fro what I have read.
DDR3 does not make a huge difference with the AM3 Phenom II processors at the moment and it is better to save the money TBH.

From that list, I'd say pretty much anything with a 790-series chipset! I've always liked Gigabyte's 790X-UD4 boards from an external POV - a good basic enthusiast board: none of that extraneous on-board graphics; just the stuff you need to run a faster computer and overclock it some! Interesting that 3.8GHz is obviously eminently acheivable on air with a 720BE. Also interesting that a wide range of manufacturers and chipsets can acheive some pretty decent overclocks: even cheaper 780G mobos - just shows the potential of the processor.Quote:

My personal favourite to go with a 720BE would probably be the Biostar TA790GX-XE but that's because I like small computers! It's got everything you realistically need unless you're looking for some serious crossfire action, it's got sideport memory to drag a little bit of extra performance from that HD3300 graphics core (which should also take a healthy overclock, of course),should support a decent enough overclock, and it gives you the choice of nice compact mATX towers as well as hulking great beasts!
I went for the full size biostar in the end as the J&W was out of stock and the biostar was almost £20 cheaper. As the CPU is multi unlocked OCing should still be fine afaik.
