Tagan, Akasa or Corsair PSU?

I'm looking at various modular ones and had all three makes recommended to me.

Any thoughts?

I have had 2 Akasa PSUs fail, I still use a 420W Tagan 2Force PSU that runs 24/7 .

I've had a Tagan 580w for the past 4 years and it's worked perfectly since day 1. That said I've heard good things about Corsair and shall be upgrading to their well-reviewed 720w in the near future!

Corsair's are too expensive for what they are £100 for a 620w modular PSU? and their cables aren't good

Enermax, Seasonic, Tagan, all good choices. Enermax & Seasonic are one of the few brands that manufacture their own PSU's.

Corsairs are good but I wouldn't pay what they are charging currently, I would go for a Enermax or Maybe a Be Quiet

I've seen people complain about the Corsair cables, but I've never seen anyone show that they have any adverse effect on how the PSU runs. If it runs what it says, the power's stable, and it lasts until it's obsolete what more do you want?

Unfortunately they (and when I say they I mean the Seasonic made units) are no longer superb value. But they are still cheaper than Seasonic's own brand stuff. And Enermax. Tagan stuff is made by TwoPower IIRC, and there have been some reported examples of spectacular failures. I wouldn't buy it, but I'm sure that many people would be OK.

Is the problem with the Corsair cables because they are UL rated for the US? When we used to sell machinery to the US we had to use UL rated cable, It was horrible stuff, Thick hard insulation with a few thick copper cores.

Yes it's absolutely true, as I can vouch having lived there for over a year. But I reiterate, does it have any effect on what the PSU does? Not that I can see. Give me a link that has shown the units don't perform in any way.

I didn't (and don't) say that it causes actual problems in operational use. I did offer an explanation as to why the cables came in for some crticism by (mainly UK) users who are not used to UL rated cables, and the fact that UL cables are designed to operate at lower voltages/higher currents than the equivalent BS or CE rated cables because of the US electrical infrastructure.

The fact remains that the UL cables are less flexible than the cables use in the UK, and that can cause difficulties in routing them in a PC case, particularly if space is limited, but their electrical characterists are perfectly adequate.

They're also less fat, which means that in some cases they're easier to route. TBH I don't like the flimsy feel, but AFAIK they work fine.

I have 3 desktops all with Tagan PSUs (1 480w and 2 580w) and they all run perfectly. Very happy with them.

there's pros and cons with the black flex cables

Its very flat which means you can stack them to save space when routing in holes and behind the motherboard

At the same time these particular cables can be very tough to bend if your HDDs are close together.
However a good solution is to use a low power hair dryer to soften the plastic and the cables will shape very very nicely. This is recommended by Corsair themselves last I read.

I also own the HX620 for over 2 years now in at least 3 different computer cases.
