NAS Upgrade Firmware
Just a quickie, how long should it take (average) to update firmware on a NAS device? I realise it depends on the device. I ask because i'm upgrading my DS-408 and it's taking ages - almost an hour now. The firmware file is less than 100mb, i didn't expect it to take this long. I fear it may have crashed, but i don't want to jump to conclusions, any advice?

Re: NAS Upgrade Firmware
What is less then 100mb ?
My router firmware is about 6 MB, and update takes about 5 mins, sometimes a little bit more.

Re: NAS Upgrade Firmware
84mb - its still going, over an hour now. No progress indicator, the browser is still responding, so i assume it's still working.

Re: NAS Upgrade Firmware
100mb isnt a firmware, thats a bloody OS :/
can you go over to the website and see how big the firmware would be to download manually rather than through the router itself as i presume you are? that would at least let you know if your going up some weird neverending path

Re: NAS Upgrade Firmware
Even the formware for the N5200 is "only" 35MB.
That only takes 2 minutes to upgrade, and thats from selecting the .bin file located on the NAS, uploading it through the web form (over wireless) and getting to the reboot prompt.

Re: NAS Upgrade Firmware
The firmware is 84.1mb, downloaded directly from the website, and then uploaded manually to the NAS.
It's still going so i can only assume something has failed - the question is now what do i do? Power down the NAS box and reset? I hope this has not effected the data partition. :censored:
I'm going to leave it going overnight and troubleshoot in the morning. Gah so much for my BH monday.
Edit: As soon as i closed the browser window it let me log back in. The firmware has not applied so it obviously failed but there is no data loss, thank god. My initial conclusion is Disk Station Manager 2.1 should of stayed in Beta a bit longer...

Re: NAS Upgrade Firmware
I would say something has gone wrong, my DS-106J didn't take anywhere near that long to upgrade to 2.1
On another note, the upgrade process is somewhat robust, during upgrading the first time, an electrician managed to trip an RCD and we lost all power. still worked after the power returned though, and managed to restart the upgrade. Think I may have been very lucky though!

Re: NAS Upgrade Firmware
I tried again this morning, i used IE8 instead of FF to upload the firmware and all is well. I have noticed a few little annoyances using FF with the DSM web interface, particulaly with the Blog, not saving the post correctly etc...
Anyway problem solved, i'm liking the new Mail Server and File Station improvements, good to see Synology are still working on improving the already excellent array of features on their NAS boxes.

Re: NAS Upgrade Firmware
I had a little issue last night with Opera and the N5200 firmware update.
Opera became unresponsive when uploading the 35MB .bin through the N5200s web form. It all worked, it just didn't give me any feed back while it was transfering the data.
