Or, likewise, another £11 to add another two 512MB sticks

Kind of irrelevant though when 2x1GB is so cheap. Heck, you can score 2x2GB for a great deal less than £40 these days.

Board only has 2 ram slots though

Just trying to keep thing at a minimum yet giving her a little headroom for future upgrades.

    Re: Budget £100~ upgrade advice

Haha, nice work. £28 for a CPU that fast ain't bad. You'd be hard pressed to find a CPU new that could beat that for under £40.

Thanks man. Just going to order the rest of the parts so it can be getting processed tomorrow morning.

You know of any really really cheap reputable PSU's? Like sub £20 cheap?

    Re: Budget £100~ upgrade advice

Haha no. I'm usually the person that forces peoples' budgets up to allow more expensive power supplies. I NEVER recommend skimping on the PSU, as a cheap PSU will often destroy the rest of the components in the system, and they're sometimes dangerous.

Yeah I know, I've got 2 psu's - one costing £75 and other costing £130. Don't want to give either of them away really...

    Re: Budget £100~ upgrade advice

    Ordered.

    CPU - eBay - 4400x2 - £28
    Mobo - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141239 - £32
    HDD - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128708 - £27
    RAM - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/120446 - £9
    PSU - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/158482 - £19

    Total - £127.

Wouldn't say this is too bad for the price tbh. With 4 new parts and 1 second hand. May also have to get an AC7 HSF if the CPU doesn't come with one. Even then, and extra £12?

All bought from ebuyer (bar cpu - ebay).

Some may say I'm taking a small risk getting such a cheap PSU, but I'm running a ColorsIT PSU in my mums PC, and have been for several years now, and it's rock solid. Seen a few good reviews as well, so decided to go for it.

Thanks everyone for your help! Much appreciated

It's a lot more than a small risk, but your call.

There's a few people I know running ColorsIt PSU's and they haven't caused any problems, and they aren't just the run-of-the-mill bog standard systems either.

I've got good faith in that PSU! Hopefully it will serve my auntie for years to come!

Would you be able to chuck me an alternative for not much extra? From ebuyer?
