Transferable Warranties?

I keep seeing a lot of people selling items on the net, claiming that they're only x months old, so they can send the receipt along with the item - apparently giving the new purchaser what's left of the warranty for it.

I only ask because some clot just paid £70 plus p+p for a 10 month old Spinpoint F1 that's £74 on Scan, and if/when I get a server I wouldn't mind relieving myself of my set of them to be replaced with something tougher, especially if I get that kind of cash for them ;)

I would think so, if they are anything like Western Digital (all iv ever delt with) they will have 2-3+ year warrenties (im guessing). Also, with Western Digital you only need to enter the serial number into an online checker on their site, and if its still within warrenty they issue with an RMA on the spot. No receipt/fannying around at all.

Iv never bought a samsung HDD before, but i presume it would be fairly similar!

Never got how it works, as you could say you moved address. But also using the persons name might cause problems if the company checks up.
