Trying to get this build in order.

    Story so far:

Had 3 DFI lanparty JR AMD boards die on me I decided I had to act. The system:

    Phenom II 940 BE
    DFI LP JR 790GX
    4GB Corsair Dominator PC8500C5
    2x HD4870 1GB Crossfire

Now I sold.... All of it. Well the motherboard got refunded by scan and the rest of it I was able to get decent value on and moved to the following:

    Core i7 920
    Asus Rampage II gene
    6GB Corsair DDR3 1333
    1x HD4870 1GB

Notice the one card still sitting there, well I intend to replace that with 2x HD 4770 soon but ofc they are not out yet.

But now the asus board died on me This time I plan to take steps. Before I just removed the stock NB cooler with a zalman one, you can just remove the top piece and keep the heatpipe and stock power cooling in place.
This time I am going to get a thermalright PWM cooler, the type 2 is the largest one and fits so thats the one I am getting. The NB cooler will be put staight onto the NB.

    -------------------------------

I was only running one graphics card and had no voltage/power down issues so I do not suspect the PSU. Combine this with the fact that I have been using the same backup Mobo/CPU (P5k-VM + Q6600) without issue between the failures also suggests the case is fine.

I was not even running the voltages on the board out of intel spec either, 1.3v cpu and 1.3v VTT with everything else at stock and the cpu @ 3.8ghz. I am hoping with the new cooling the new board should be fine.

Sorry for the rambling post, just in system limbo atm while I wait on the new board and the GFX cards to be released

First thing i would do is get a multi-meter onto that PSU.

Secondly, i would test the 'cleanliness' of the power you are getting from your sockets.

Its got to be one or the other.

This Q6600 is running at 3.6ghz being delivered by a 3 phase power system and is fine and has been for long periods of time on the same PSU at the same wall outlet.

Re: Trying to get this build in order.

The boards cooling solutions were fine.

Either the PSU is dodgy and is fluctuating or you are over-volting something.....or are the unluckiest person ever when it comes to motherboard deaths.

Of course, it could be the old case of nylon underwear
