Hot E5200, new cooler suggestions!
Hello,
I have my new computer that I built on the 15th of May. The specs are as follows
Intel E5200 Retail
Asus P5KPL-AM
4GB Geil Black Dragon PC-6400 800mhz CL5 RAM
XFX HD4830
Coolermaster Elite 330 with 460w Coolermaster PSU
Now, my E5200 idles, everything on stock, at about 48 degrees, and under load (intel burn) this goes up to 70 / 75 degrees. Now, this is far too hot for a stock E5200, even with the stock cooler. I've reseated the cooler, it's definitely on okay. I have the two 120mm case fans installed as well.
Which is why i'm very confused. Perhaps it's a bad Intel heatsink, making bad contact with the CPU, i'm not sure. But now i'm in the market for a new cooler, as I seem to have a beast of an E5200 that will do 3.5ghz stable, with just +50mv.
Any suggestions for a new cooler? Must be from scan.co.uk because of the free delivery thanks to hexus (<3). Looking at £20 exc vat, as that's the free delivery threshold.
Thanks a bunch,
Mattbot2

This should do the job:

This thread will be useful too:

Edit!
The Arctic Cooling fan comes with MX2 pre-applied IIRC.

I hope this isn't patronising, but I thought it was worth asking as you didn't mention it in the article - are you comfortable with the quality and quantity of thermal paste you're using? You won't get the most out of your new HSF if you don't get the thermal paste right! :)

It's the stock heatsink fan that is on there at the moment, that stuff comes pre-applied. As does the stuff on the Freezer 7.

Don't forget to remove the old thermal compound before installing the new cooler.

Yup.
Looking at something slightly more pricey than the Freezer 7 as I want over £20 exc vat to get free delivery.
Any suggestions?

Thermalright Ultima 90 - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Therm...U-(Without-Fan)
You will need to buy a fan seperately. I have the Antec Amber fan which is very quiet - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/92mm-...-and-Long-Life
More towards £30 but it's a great heatsink - my E7200 doesn't even get hot enough to move the CPU's thermal sensors!
Re: Hot E5200, new cooler suggestions!
I use a Zerotherm Zen: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=913758
And it's always been brilliant. Before I went quad core I was using a c2d e6300 O/C'ed from 1.8 to 2.9Ghz and it kept that at 30degrees even under load. Bargain! :)
Re: Hot E5200, new cooler suggestions!
I have an AC7 pro, and it keeps it cooler than i even need, i cant even get enough volts into it to make the cpu get toasty, so it idles 30 degrees and 47 max overclocked to 3.15GHZ.
Re: Hot E5200, new cooler suggestions!
Hi there Matt,
I'm new to these forums, but I will offer my recommendations on cooling.
For a CPU cooler one of the best heat-sinks you can currently get is the Thermalright Ultra Extreme (TRUE) Black, available from Scan (search for TRUE black).
This, coupled with a few Noctua fans will provide very good cooling and also allow you to over-clock your CPU if you so wish.
Re: Hot E5200, new cooler suggestions!
^ Agree with the TRUE. You don't need the Black version though. Just the normal TRUE will do + Notcua. I've got that setup :)
Re: Hot E5200, new cooler suggestions!
@Singh400 but the black is well, black! ;)
And with a 775 mounting the black is cheaper.
Re: Hot E5200, new cooler suggestions!
Sorry to go slightly off topic but what settings did you use to get your e5200 stable at 3.5ghz, I can reach 3.4 at most.

Divider at 3:5 (667mhz DRAM Frequency)
+50mv. Can't remember FSB.
Re: Hot E5200, new cooler suggestions!
For best stability I would recommend trying to get trying to get that two a 1:1 ratio, even if that means you have to reduce your RAM speed.

P5KPL-AM doesn't have 1:1.
