Antec TruePower 750W or Corsair 750W?

    Hi,

anyone have any experience with either the Antec TruePower 750W or Corsair 750W?

I've read that while they're both excellent, the Antec can be noisy at load and even whined in one review, while the Corsair has some electrical noise. Also the Antec is modular (partly).

It would probably be going into an Antec P182 case.

Whining is the last thing I want, it's what my current PSU is doing and it's not nice.

    cheers!

Re: Antec TruePower 750W or Corsair 750W?

you may have cable routing issues in the P182 case because both PSUs are longer than normal, you may need to get creative with your lower chamber fan and HDD cables.
I would go for the Antec since that is the TP NEW model plus its partly modular.

for a new build which might include an overclocked core i7 and more than one GPU. But mainly to get the four PCI-E connectors for SLI, which the lower wattage PSUs don't seem to have.

That one does but you'll end up spending the same money as a 750W. You do get modualr connectors though..

yes, may as well get a 750W for the same price. am hoping the whine from the Antec review was a one-off.

yikes, I hope not. Anyone know for sure if 150mm is too long for this case?

actually re-checking the specs, the Antec TP NEW 750W is standard size, you shouldn't have any problem with the P182 (well no more than usual given its quite cramped down there)

thanks. now that I know the P183 is around for the same or less money, and has fixed the space problem, I may as well go for that now.

So no one's aware of any noise issues with either PSU?

Of those two options, the Corsair, every time.
Realistically though, are you sure you need 750 Watts?
A Corsair HX 520 / Antec Earthwatts 550W will power the vast majority of systems, Quad core and Dual graphics included.

Easily solved by using the appropriate adaptors from all those unused Molex connectors (assuming you pick a psu with enough SATAs, anyway ). As other's have said, you may be able to save yourself some money getting as lower wattage PSU that will still provide more than enough juice...

Re: Antec TruePower 750W or Corsair 750W?

To be honest, I don't like those adapters very much, the standard of the wiring in them worries me for how much current goes down them, but realistically, a lot of SLI / Crossfire systems only need two connectors (any SLI up to GTS250, or a GTX295, any Crossfire up to HD4850CF, or an HD4870X2)

Re: Antec TruePower 750W or Corsair 750W?

    OK thanks.

I'm still reading up on on all this, but I've just put my requirements into this calculator and for a single GTX275 with an overclocked i7 920 (plus an allowance for capacitor aging) it says I need 674W. If I add another GTX275 it jumps to 823W.

Maybe it's being overly cautious, but on the other hand a PSU will obviously last a lot longer if it doesn't often need to run near its full capacity. What do you think?
