Which DVD Burner? LiteOn LDW811 or NEC ND2500

I decided to buy a DVD burner. Which one do you suggest? The LiteOn LDW811 or the NEC ND2500?

I'd vote for the NEC, as its served me well over the past few months.

I got one last week. No problems reading CD's or DVD's so far, have yet to decide on the media I'm going to buy for writing DVD's. Also, the region-free firmware doesn't work at the moment due to NEC changing their version the week before I bought it so I'm using AnyDVD to play region-1 DVD's on the drive. The situation might change soon though (check out http://www.rpc1.org for more details).

I've got a LiteOn 811 and I'm very happy with it.

I've burnt lots of DVDs with cheap media and they've all worked fine. It's error correction is absolutely first-rate and the fact it burns CDs at 40x is a big bonus to me.

However, someone else on this forum mentioned that they found it a bit fussy with media so maybe the drives are a bit hit and miss?

I think that's a general problem with DVD+RW drives. A few NEC owners were complaining about certain media being poor on their drives so I want to do a bit more searching for media. I think this link should provide some good info on that drive.

I have a Phillips 824 DVD RW drive sure, it only burns + media, but it has impairable compatibility with DVD players, and reads any media I throw at it, the CD rewriting offered by this drive however is a tad naff with only 24x Record and 12x rewrite, but still a solid drive for a great price! U also get Sonic MyDVD Pro, and trials of their other two products, and even one free DVD-R to test your skills with! Also bundeled is a complete guide to isntalling the drive even noobs can understand and finally, 4 free dvd labels! A great bargain complete with Neon lights on the front of the drive and seamless link technology - tells you what type of disc is in the drive!

Ive tried many types of meida on my NEC, cheap and nasty - and + disks and some expensive x8 disks all of which have written without fault. The only thing i wish could be faster was the CD writing speed, its slower than most at 33x but thats still a disk in less than 4 minutes.

In my experiance and my friends we both got liteons, they are superb, willl read any disc, any media and burn brilliantly, can't recommend them enough, brother also has a liteon dvd rom which will read discs no other drive can(apart from my liteon burner), so that impressed me as well

I ordered that cheap Toshiba DVD-RW from Ebuyer, it should arrive tommorow, I'll let you know how I get on with it.

Hmm, dunno. I've read LOTS of complaints about NEC drives on DVD Forums, I have two Liteon CDRW drives, both 40 x, and they're great, I've had a Liteon DVD-ROM and early Liteon CDRW both fail on me within 15 months and I'm using a Pioneer 106 dual format DVDRW atm, which I'm very happy with. You can pick up the Pioneer 106 for relative peanuts right now if you can still find one and the Pioneer 107 for around £80.00. I'd recommend Pioneer.

And a friend of mine bought an MSI dual format DVDRW in December for £80.00, no complaints so far.

I too have just bought the NEC - will be interested to hear how you get on with it and if it is fussy with the media!

NEC is the best drive, read some reviews, nothing compares.

I had no problems at all burning Piodata DVD x4 -R media. My old standalone LG DVD player read the discs without any problems. The drive is just great!!
