    Vista 64 & CPU Temperatures

Okay so I took the plunge and decided to try out Vista Ultimate. Going well so far apart from a few things.

Along with the upgrade to Vista I procured 2x2GB of Corsair DOMINATOR PC2-8500 RAM. Before I was running XP with 2x1GB with the RAM correctly set to 1066 in the bios. However, if I try change the DRAM frequency of the 2x2GB sticks now, Vista will refuse to boot. It gets right up to the boot screen and the PC restarts itself. Any suggestions?

On the subject of Temperatures, I have been using Real Temp and Core Temp to guage the CPU's temperature. At idle the four cores are roughly between 37-42. The funny thing is under load they go up literally about 5 degrees and that is it. Could this just be a fault with the sensor that so many Quad Core CPU's appear to have?

    Ta for the help guys!

Re: Vista 64 & CPU Temperatures

Under sustained load for several minute the core temps should rise significantly, and on top of that loading an application should result in an instant jump in temperatures by at least 10ºC regardless of the heatsink temperature. I go by the main CPU temp as its more reliable than the core temperatures.

Re: Vista 64 & CPU Temperatures

Indeed, my individual core temps seem a little out of whack - I tend to look at main CPU temp.

Regarding the RAM issue, I'd have a look and ensure you are running indentical sticks, also make sure your mobo is supplying enough voltage.

the q9450 is a pretty cool chip, I have a q9550 and a TRUE cooling it. Load temps don't go past 50C. What cooler are you using on yours and have you disabled any power saving features in your BIOS eg speedstep, C1e? Also, give OOCT a try for a good mixture of multi core prime 95 and good temp monitoring.

Re: Vista 64 & CPU Temperatures

Ta for the help guys, I fixed the RAM issue it was a case of the Motherboard not automatically adjusting the voltage to 2.1v for some odd reason. As for the CPU I'm using a Scythe Ninja RevII with AK-455 thermal paste. Will give OOCT a run!
