Have been using the standard fan for last 6 months. Recently, when playing a game or encoding video it makes a long beeping noise. Also, the sound of the fan sounds kind of wierd. Gave it a clan but problem still exists.
Fan running at 1454rpm at idle.
First of all if your using the intel stock cooler, ensure that all the 4 push-pin style connectors are securely connected to the motherboard as they can sometimes come free and this affects the cooling performance of the heatsink and fan.
Do you know what temp your CPU is running at?
Idle
System 34c
CPU 40c
Does the RPM seem right? Could it be a faulty fan? Have some AS5 here, just thinking if I should try and reapply the thermal paste (stuff that came with the keatsink) or should I get a new fan.
Buy the Noctua NH-12UP fan... follow the instructions... problem solved.
This fan and heatsink are amazing... so quiet and cool... My Q6600 is OC'ed to 3.6 stable tested with Prime95 for 7 hours.

Well it seems to be cooling your CPU ok at those temps, perhaps its just had its day? An even better CPU cooler than the stock cooler only costs £10-15 anyway...
RPM looks low for a stock cooler, possibly on its way out, and maybe even cutting out intermittently. I'm guessing that the beep is your chip overheating.
The beeping will most likely the mobo telling you that the RPM of the fan is too low and cant increase it.
Easy to check - just open the case and look
