Exclamation ASUS M3A78-EM 780G USB Ports not working

Hi, All the USB ports on the back of the motherboard are not working...Ive tried different USB devices and only the Mouse and desktop external hard drive work.

Ive tried a portable external hard drive and it comes up "not recognised", this is also the same with a USB pen drive and USB wireless device...

    Please help

Have you looked in Device manager to see if they are listed and have driver assigned ?

Re: ASUS M3A78-EM 780G USB Ports not working

    1. Make sure you have the latest motherboard chipset drivers installed.
    2. Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed.

If 1 and 2 fail, RMA.

Re: ASUS M3A78-EM 780G USB Ports not working

Right, Just read your post again. So some USB things work and others don't. Have you Enabled legacy USB support in the BIOS ?

If legacy support is set to AUTO it will disable support if no legacy devices are plugged in when the machine is started.

Re: ASUS M3A78-EM 780G USB Ports not working

Disconnect any front-panel/case USB connectors, if you've got them connected to the motherboard. If they're mis-wired you can get weird USB behaviour.

Are you running Windows XP? Make sure that you've got at least SP1 installed (for USB 2.0 support); preferably SP3.

Re: ASUS M3A78-EM 780G USB Ports not working

As I answered in your other thread which you seem to be alternating questions between two threads.

To quote you from another thread you started on this -

Hi, All the USB ports on the back of the motherboard are not working...Ive tried different USB devices and only the Mouse and desktop external hard drive work.

Ive tried a portable external hard drive and it comes up "not recognised", this is also the same with a USB pen drive and USB wireless device...
Now if I read this right, The USB mouse and USB external hard drive work! So this suggests it is an issue with some of the devices your plugging in.

Re: ASUS M3A78-EM 780G USB Ports not working

That sounds like the USB Keyboard/Mouse and the 3.5" external drive works.

The portable (2.5") drives can't be used on an Asus board, which doesn't provide enough power on the USB header. (8 out of 8 Asus board I've used since Pentium III had this issue)

The USB pen drive not so sure, perhaps its actually broken (unless you tested on another machine).

For the USB wireless device, you probably did not install the Vista wireless manager (what is the proper name for it?) or you're trying to connect to a WPA(2)-Enterprise network (which doesn't work on Vista without tweaking from the server side).
