    Upgrade Advice

I built my mother a PC a few years back based on the ASUS Terminator K7

    Current Spec:

Duron 750 with low profile Taisol Heatsink/Fan
    2 x 256 PQI P133 SDRAM
    20GB Maxtor UDMA 66/100 ?
    Liteon CDR/RW/DVD Combo Drive
    FDD

Its getting a bit slow now & with her birthday coming up in April was thinking of upgrading or replacing it.

Should I upgrade just the CPU & VGA or start with a new PC - budget shuttle?

Could rope my brother in to pay half (hopefully)

Rope your brother and get a shuttle, but give her a few goodies that she will enjoy like webcam, microphone, etc.

if you can find the following....you're laughing.

An Athlon Thunderbird...about 1->1.4 gig....it is WAY fasster than that Duron. Not just clock speed but processes per cycle.

    Keep the ram..its fine

New vid card....is it an AGP slot or is it built in and therefore gotta be a PCI card?

A Radeon 9200 is cheap....they are NOT gaming card BUT will MASSACRE a built in solution from that long ago......or better...if you can find a Radeon 9000 (trust us, its better than most 9200's ) maybe even a Pro.

    And last but not least....

RE INSTALL WINDOWS so she starts for clean....SO MUCH FASTER

Waht a cool son.....upgrading his Mums PC.

    Nice one dude

I have a 900MHz Athlon Thunderbird for sale that i'm sure will run quite happily at 1GHz, let me know if you're interested.
