    Exclamation What Would You Reccommend?

Ok Here goes folks at easter i have £550 to spend. i need new ram, cpu and mobo. this is wat im thinking of getting.

    Abit IC7 Max 3
    1gb Corsair Pro 4000
    3.0 Pentium 4

Now i will have a full watercooling setup. i also have an asus 9800XT. So wat would u guys suggest? or is the above setup gd? overclocking wise etc...
i would have liked a 2.4 or 2.8 c ( i think these are the ones overclock well?) but i cant find anywhere in the uk that still does them. if anyone had links it would be gr8. i dont like using ebuyer.

Also i have an asetek waterchill. i will have the full kit but does there vga block work on the radeon 9800xt? and also on the ablit ic7 max 3 on the northbride is there mounting holes for a waterblock? and will i be able to have 4 hard drives on it without having to use raid as i knwo nothing about it if anyone has a link on raid that would be gr8 too. i have a thermaltake xaser 3 but it aint to gd for room etc. so i want to get a new case and id like to know wat u guys think would be best for looks , room etc wouldnt wanna spend more than £120 for it.

I knwo im asking alot here guys but ur info is greatly appreciated!!

    Kind Regards

as for the memory its overpriced and overrated at those speeds any pc4000 will perform just about the same as the corsair ,why not get the geil pc4200 for £225

 thanx for allt he replys guys. i had looked into a 64 bit system but as i have ehard it will being chaging to higher pins 954? or somthin so the chips out now will become redundent along with there motherboards. i do intend to overclock thats why i want the 2.8c i dont want a full server case. i knwo im being picky but id liek to be able to bring my computer to lans without needing a crane :worried: lol so does anyone have suggestions on ram? or is the corsair ok? i was kind of thinking of a lian li case becuase i mite also be getting the nventv mach II to help me overclock. would this case have room in it to put an asetek waterchill full kit into it tidily and effienctly?

and i knwo ppl are saying that the 64bit athlon is future proof etc but the truth is no one knows wat ts liek in 64bit yet :sigh:

well any more ideas would be gr8 guys thanx for ur help!!

If you're just going to use IDE, I think you can only have four devices on it at once. So if you want four hard drives then you will have to have no CD/DVD etc on the IDE.

AFAIK, the 9800XT has the same mount hole positioning as the 9800pro, so yes, the WaterChill GPU block will fit (got one here). If you want to increase the ram more than you can with 'normal' air-cooling, then BGA ramsinks will help it increase a little bit more.

You can get PCI IDE controllers for about £10 to £15 from a variety of places like PCWorld or Maplins.

Woo - here comes the usual Intel party gatecrasher

Although you do want to overclock the CPU - a 3000XP will still overclock, may only be by 300-400Mhz but that'll 'in theory' give you a 3800-4000XP

The new NForce250 should have PCI locked, although due to the nature of the overclocking its not really needed.

And the boards are a little cheaper - so you could afford to spend the extra on a 3200XP rather than 3000XP

BTW - I wouldn't recommend the cheapo IDE controlers, I'd spend a little more as the cheapo ones have compatilibility issues with loads of motherboards and will often lock up if there being used too hard.

    G4 PowerMac - Tiger 10.4 - 512MB RAM
    MacBook - 2Ghz - 1GB RAM - 120GB HDD

    Rotel RC970BX | DBX DriveRack |2x Rotel RB850
    B&W DM640i | Velodyne 1512
