I am looking at external HDDs to hold disc images for backup purposes to guard against hardware failure in my main storage.
I plan to use Acronis True Image Home to write full images of my 4 HDDs to the 1TB device, weekly and incrementals daily (or as necessary).
I have eSATA, USB2 and IEEE1394a ports on the PC.
I suspect I'd prefer eSATA as this is the only currently unused port in my system.
The USB2 traffic is high.
I have one 10/100 LAN available on my rubbish router (Orange livebox) but don't really want a LAN solution.
I have a budget of £150.
I need the HDD to be reliable (ie I need to be 100% confident that should the need arise the images will be good).
I'd prefer if the images could be written fairly quickly as I plan to do this at bedtime each evening and get the machine to shut itself down when it's finished. My machine is quite noisy and the Mrs complains if I've left it on at night.
What do you suggest?
