    Best upgrade options

Im looking to upgrade my machine, also i would like to reduce the noise

    My main machine is currently

    Q6600@3gig
    Geforce 8800GT PCIE - 2nd version
    4gig ddr ram
    MSI motherboard,
early revision of Sata HD's ( slow than my external esata drive)
    Samsung 2232BW 22" LCD 1680*1050 i recall
    Antec P182 case

    Mainly for FPS/Everquest/Fallout3

My secondary machine, which i use for downloading/browsing and to play 2ndary mmorph characters
    p4 2.6gig @ stock,
    2gig ram
    7600GT - AGP
    oldish mobo
HD which is the very first revision of sata drives

Now the question is, i dont really want to spend more than £500 though if needed i can, im just a little mean with my money.

    first option i considerd
    Asus 26" screen arround £300 ASUS VW266H Black 25.5" 2ms(GTG) HDMI
    ati 4890 for arround £200

Or should i look to move to a new cpu platform

    i7920 + motherboard £500 ish ?
but this also means 6gig of ram and a new vid card as my older one needs to move to the new system.
and i would like to be able to play at a higher res in the future as my 2nd screen is a 17" POS
    6gig ram £100
    new card £100-£200
oh and a new psu £70 ish ?

Thats approx £1000 for a new system without a new screen
but if i get screen and vga card now, its compatible with upgrading the cpu/mobo/ram at a later date.

If so, would a 4890 be quiet or would the new 4770 surfice for now, and if i upgrade my display then progress to a new card at that time.

At a minimum i would like to play fallout3, maxed out on my current 22"

Your current CPU should be more than powerful enough for the next 6 to 12 months IMHO.In fact you could get away overclocking it a bit more!

I would do a full system overhaul when the 32nm Intel and AMD processors come out next year.

I would suggest going for a new CPU cooler(unless you already have a decent one) like the following two:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Therm...U-(Without-Fan)

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Noctu...us)-and-LGA775

You can use a quiet fan for the first one and the second one is meant to offer decent cooling and is meant to be not too noisy.

Have you considered the Hanns-G HG281D??

It is good value for money:

The HD4890 is only £165 from Scan:
