hi there i am making a big server with about 12 drives to store HD content and mp3s for the house
i have these few components to build it with from a previous pc

    board - Gigabyte M750SLi-DS4
ram - 2GB Corsair XMS2-6400C5 Dual Channel Kit
psu - OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
    videocard - Asus GeForce EN7600GS Silent HTD 256MB DDR2 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express)
cooler - Asus Silent Knight AL CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)

but i want to get a really low power PSU and silent too can anyone recommend a silent one with low wattage

also the cooler i bought Asus Silent Knight AL CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)
seems to be quite loud , i need a really good cooler silent as well can u recommend one?

You wouldn't need any more than 400W, but you do need something with as many SATA power connectors as possible. That'll be the much tougher part. And I'm having trouble locating something as ideal as that myself. The PSU manufacturers have a tendency to skimp out on connectors on lower wattage PSUs to force consumers to purchase uselessly powerful (and therefore excessively expensive) models.

Yeah, but I have this thing about using splitters and whatnot. Having to use a particular solution isn't the same as having to like it.

Are these new drives? If you're repurposing old ones, it may be simpler to just replace with a couple of 1Tb drives. Will save a bit on the power bills too.

(If you're holding on to 12Tb of media data then you've got a serious blu-ray ripping habit or something!)

Look for stock Phenom coolers, they're cheap and quiet, particularly if your motherboard has a PWM fan header. Otherwise, you could get something massive like the Scythe Infinity, and run it passively.

You may need to look carefully at the particular rail loading with all those drives and ensure that the 5 and 12 volt rails of the PSU can supply the required current while powering the CPU.

You may be OK as you won't be using anything special for the GPU, but it is worth spending a few minutes just to make sure, and checking the specs of the candidate PSU's carefully.

Re: Low Wattage PSU for my Server help

    Personally I use Corsair VX450W

or if you wanted slightly more you could get the 550W version: Corsair VX550W

    Link to the specs: http://www.corsair.com/products/vx/default.aspx

Has 6 SATA connectors and 6 molex, so you could either use a splitter on the molex or alternatively you could buy some of these: 90 Degree SATA Power Connector to add onto the SATA cables
