    Programmable Ir remotes

    Hi everyone

This is something I've been looking for for a while. I realise I could probably just get hold of Windows Media Center but I'm a kinda roll-your-own guy.

Basically I'm looking for a media remote that's programmable to an extent.
I use winamp for music, media player classic / VLC (ocassionally WMP) for video and something I've always looked for is a remote which can control all of them.
Pauses/plays whatever is currently playing, changes overall system volume (ideally windows SPDIF volume level), nxt/prev on the playlist on whatever's playing (winamp/MPC etc).

Anyone know if anything like that's out there?

I'm a web programmer mainly, but do a fair bit in AutoIt/AutoHotKey so was planning to use that to write the commands and send hotkeys, if the remote comes with some sort of utility where you can choose the command on a per-button basis.

Anyone got any other advice for making some sort of remote?

    Cheers, B

    Re: Programmable Ir remotes

I can't remeber the exact details but I'm pretty sure the IR mouse controller I have at home is programmable (and also comes with pre-defined profiles for a huge range of software). I'll check the make / model and get back to this thread - I thought it was a Remotek but googling isn't helping me!!

EDIT: It would help if I googled Remotec!! I have what is basically a Remotec BW6130. It has configurable buttons to launch up to three different programs, but I'm not sure if the actual inputs are user-configurable or if it will only recognise the pre-programmed profiles. It's a good remote mouse and media remote though, if it has profiles for the programs you're using...

    Re: Programmable Ir remotes

I have a SPEEDLINK SL-6399 Media Centre Remote Control

It is the same as this remote and the reprogrammable software work for it.

I changed all the buttons to keyboard shortcuts (i.e Ctrl+Shift+Space for the play button) and I use it and AutoHotKey to launch and control DVBviwer, JR media center, Media Player Classic etc

    Re: Programmable Ir remotes

    That looks great!
Any chance you could post the link to the software download?

The download link at http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/869860 is broken (404 error)

    Cheers, B
