no video on boot
so i'm building a computer for a friend of mine and for some reason whenever i start the computer, i get no video. i'm thinking bad agp slot which would really suck since the mobo's brand new. the specs are:
mobo: sy-kt400 dragon ultra
proc: amd athlon xp 2600+
512 mb ram
geforce FX pro680 256 DDR

any beebs ? I assume you dont get a Post beep ?
-
i was getting a long beep whenever i would turn it on, but i'm pretty sure that was due to the heatsink not being set correctly. i took that off and re-set it and i got no beeps. now the computer stays on, but no video.
-
also, i just hooked it up to my monitor and when my monitor is idle, the power light turns to an amber color, and when it's active, a green color....like most monitors do. but i turned the computer on and it flashed from amber to green, back to amber, and then back to green and stayed there for about 4 seconds, then went back to amber and stayed there.
-
So do you hear any beeps at all now when you turn the computer on ? Are you saying you get the one short post beep now ?
check what the original long beep wa ssupposed to indicate. it should say in your motherboard manual, or look on the companies website
-
actually, i take that back. i'm getting a long beep now. the only reason i wasn't getting a beep was cause the computer was laying down, when it's standing, i get a long beep and then the computer shuts off. don't know why, but i'm very angry at it. i'm gonna check the website to see what it means now.

perhaps a bad AGP slot or naff video card?
-
the video card works cos i put it in my machine. agp slot is possible though. i'm also thinking bad psu
-
Have you tried another card in that system? ;)
-
yeah, i tried my old Geforce4 mx 440 that i have lying around. no go. :(
-
could be dodgy mobo then. Have you tried resetting the CMOS yet?
-
yeah, i also tried taking out the battery itself, no luck.
-
I had the same problem with a new nforce2 mobo last year. RMA job, I think :(
-
that sucks. I guess an option would be to RMA the board and try another one. It should be an easy process dependant on what company you received the motherboard from. Unfortunately things like this happen :(
-
RMA? i don't want to sound like a noob here...but i don't recall ever hearing that phrase in my 5 years of geekdom :P

I also have a similar problem, except i get the correct POST beep, and everything seems to run as normal, but no video output. I tried 2 different GFX cards, 2 different HDD, but no luck. I removed the battery to reset the CMOS, and still nothing. Its an old P3 System, 650mhz, 20gbHDD, Dual BIOS mobo.
