    2.5" hdd

Hi, my laptop drive has failed and im going to get that replaced under warrenty and stick it in an external drive and use this as in excuse to have an upgrade XD

I want it to be fast as possible but i cant afford a SSD.

    I was thinking this
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/320-G...MB-Cache-12-ms
But thought I would check here first!

    Cheers, Neil.

    Re: 2.5" hdd

The Seagate Momentus 7200.3 ST9320421AS is another drive to consider. Both the Seagate and WD you linked to deliver roughly the same performance, priced the same and unless I'm mistaken are the fastest laptop 2.5" drives around.

Here's a good roundup of performance 2.5" drives including both WD and Seagate mentioned: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...rive,2006.html

Scan has the WD, where eBuyer has the Seagate.

    Re: 2.5" hdd

Just bought a couple of the WD black for use in a RAID 1 setup in a server - early days but they seem pretty quiet and pretty fast. I bought mine from E-buyer, they were slightly cheaper than scan at the time. If I have one grip, it's that they largest size is 320GB atm.

    Re: 2.5" hdd

Been eyeing these WD drives up on Play.com, £48 and i've got a £10 voucher from that GTX275 thing the other day. Guess they're well worth it? Higher cap than my current 3.5" drive, probably quieter and it'll mean i can take the 3.5" drive cage out of my case (space! yay!).
