    Very Strange Razer Copperhead Problems!

    Hey Guys,

Around 2006/07, I purchased a Razer Copperhead. Up until about a month ago, it worked perfectly on my desktop and laptop. However, it gradually stopped reading properly on my desk, and eventually the laser tracking died altogether.

I therefore purchased a new Copperhead recently, but have immediately experienced the same problems with both my desktop and laptop. It doesn't seem to track properly on start-up, and after continued use, still only works on 1 or 2 surfaces, both of which are an off-grey colour. It will not read off the official Razer mousemat or any other surface that my old Copperhead did before it started to become faulty.

Does anyone know what could be to blame? I've reinstalled Windows on both computers, and it appears to be a problem even in Windows Setup, and whether the generic driver or Razer driver are installed. Is it possible that I've just lucked out and received a similarly broken replacement device, or could something else be at fault here?

Thanks for any help you can give.

    What does it do exactly?

Does it just not track at all or does it shoot off or skip where its tracking?

My mate had problems with his Razer mouse, he just used the firmware update on the razer site. After that it worked perfectly.

Have you tried contacting Razer support or been on the razer support website?

    Try updating the firmware.

    Hope that helps mate!

Re: Very Strange Razer Copperhead Problems!

I've tried updating the firmware, and had the latest version installed on both.

Basically, it doesn't track at all on most surfaces, and on a few greyish ones, it is sluggish and may stop during movement. After sustained use, it tends to get a little better, though on boot, it barely works (if at all) on any surface.

Razer's support system doesn't seem great, and there's nothing like this on their FAQ. I was hoping someone here might have some suggestions, as I'm pretty certain they won't.

Have you tried using it on a piece of plain white paper (A4). If it doesn't work on that then I think you will have to rma it.

I'd contact Razer and see what they say. Just seems like a fault mouse tbh. And yes, a case of bad luck when you got the replacement aswell.

Make sure there is nothing at all (not even a spec of dust) in the laser hole.

You might have had something on your desk that got in there and has also infiltrated the new mouse!

Cotton bud and some powerful blowing on the laser may be in order.

Otherwise it has to be faulty, although I've had a couple of copperheads myself since they first came out and found them to be extremely robust....they have both been heavily used and abused.

If none of the above work, you will probably have to RMA it.

Much like shaithis said, i have got a new razer and i have abused it heavily (logitech mice didnt last the abuse) and mines working wonderfully still.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I've tried cleaning it and using it on plain paper... Still nothing.

I'll RMA it as soon as possible.
