2.1 Speakers... Already wasted £120... HELP!!!

    Hey guys,
After alot of reading of reviews and forums I decided to shell out on a pair of acoustic energy aego m 2.1 speakers. And tbh after having recieved them from ebuyer I am very unimpressed. They don't sound as great as all the reviews suggest they should, although that is partly due to my current sound card, and there is almost zero bass. I'm not blasting the music out on high but anywhere from low to medium volume with the bass set at 3 there seems to be nothing. I was using a pair of 50 quid logitechs beforehand which compared to these are amazing. I'm going to try and get a refund from ebuyer although unless they are faulty I doubt I will be able to. If I do manage to get a refund or sell them on ebay (at a loss of course ) then I'm going to be buying a new pair of speakers. After a quick look at scan I've seen the logitech z cinema which seems to be good and the logitech z2300 which seems to be the better choice of the two. Seeing as I made a mistake with the aegos I need some help on what speakers to get this time before I end up almost 300 quid out of pocket. So... any suggestions...

Ask to return them under DSR (within 7 days of arrival).

Or buy an amplifier that can take a digital out from your sound card and has the power to drive these expensive speakers properly.

from reading the specs they have a built in amp, if thats the case buy an amp and some real speakers instead of those 3 pieces of crap

anyway, i would suggest some decent logitech 5.1 surround speakers, you dont have to hook them all up and at some stage u may decide to go 5.1 and u have the exta 2 rears

Z5400's here and they are very good with strong bass.

I've emailed them to make sure I can return them under DSR as they have been opened and it states they must be returned as new so I'm not sure if this counts "as new". Got them on friday so I should have enough time.

GoNz0 is online now Report Post sendpm.gif
The only reason I didn't go 5.1 was because even though I have no use for them now, as you said I may in the future but it seems to drive the price up quite a bit. Nowhere seems to stock the 5400's either.

5400's are no longer made, the 55's were the top of the line at the time and they are even better.

Do they have consumable parts that you've eaten or otherwise consumed? Have you broken anything? If not, then chances are within 7 days they're still in as new condition.

I actually did swallow one of the cables... lmao... I read "as new" to mean unopened but thanks for clearing that up... I'll be sending them back probably on wednesday, I'm guessin within 7 days means when I send it back and not when they recieve it by...
Hoping all that goes well then I'm going to be getting probably the z2300's... anyone have any experience with these speakers or any others around this price point... don't wanna have to go through all this again... thanks for the replies so far btw

Are you sure that the system is not faulty or there is a dodgy connection somewhere??

Anyway the Audioengine 2 active stereo speakers look pretty decent:

The Stereophile have given them a good review:

    The A5 is even better.

Here are some other system which have been well reviewed:

z-2300's are very powerful, cant remmeber if they had optical outputs but they can be veyr bassy if thats what you need

z-5400 i have, brilliant set, dont know why they are EOL, z-5500's top of the line heart pound to say the least

got for 2300's tbh, alot cheaper unless you have the room for 3 extra speakers!

    Audioengine 2's here

They pack a BIG punch for speakers so small, and for the price you can't really beat them. The only issue is that you'll need a separate subwoofer if the ample bass provided isn't enough for you.

I've used mine at a wedding and they filled a large room easily.

Re: 2.1 Speakers... Already wasted £120... HELP!!!

There's easily something wrong with them then imo.

The Aego M's are widely regarded as probably the best computer speakers you can get for under £100 and although i've not heard any i know many that have them and swear by them.

How do you mean there's no bass on them ? The Aego M's aren't like your "standard" Logitech or Creative speakers which are designed for games and films in mind, the Aego's are more like Studio Monitor speakers which aim to reproduce music accurately and more detailed. It could just be that you're used to the X530 sound which is definitely more bass quantity orientated (as opposed to quality), as such your ears haven't adjusted to the more "refined" sound of the Aego's.

Also when you put your head/hand up to the subwoofer, can you feel it moving ? Can you hear the bass then ?

I agree. Could be something wrong with them or have you not turned the bass up, there are 3 level setting on the back.

What-HiFi dont give out 5 stars unless the product deserves them....
