Expansion Slots
Hello all, I have a couple of questions about expansion slots.
1. My board has 3 PCI-e x16 slots labelled 1, 2 and 3. I currently have my graphics card in the first one, but that blocks quite a few slots. Would it make a difference if I moved it down to no. 3 at the bottom?
2. Also, I have a couple of PCI cards but only 1 PCI slot. What I do have, though, are a couple of spare PCI-e x16 slots. Can I safely plug a PCI card (network card) into a PCI-e x16 slot?
Thanks in advance,
Michael

Re: Expansion Slots
1) no it won't make a difference since both blue slots are identical (according to Asus)
2) don't even think about this :D

Re: Expansion Slots
1. depends on how the slot is wired by the looks of your board the answer would be no unless there is a biso issue with this
2. You cannot plus a pci card into a pci-e slot inless there is some sort of adapter in the middle.
Hope that helps
Edit:
Beaten to it

Re: Expansion Slots
Well, my internet searches haven't been overly pleasing so far... do such adapters exist?
Looking for either PCI-e x1 OR x16 ----> PCI

Re: Expansion Slots
Your unlikely to find one and if you did it will be costly and probably need some kind of case modification.
The cheaper option (esp if the PCI card is a NIC) is to buy a PCI-E version of the car....although most motherboard have decent LAN on them anyway these days.

Re: Expansion Slots
Thing is, the ethernet socket on my motherboard has decided to stop working (tried installing every driver under the sun and it still won't recognise it) so I need that, and I would rather keep my TV card, too. Thanks for the reply, though
