URGENT! What mobo's support Adaptec AAR 2610SA SATA/RAID Cards?
Hi.
A friend and I purchased a pair of the above cards off eBay (£65 plus p &p each!). He received his yesterday and found they won't fit in his Gigabyte M750SLi-DS4 motherboard and so today has returned them.
Mine are due to be delivered today and so I need to know which motherboards are compatible?
If only very expensive Intel server boards, I shall refuse to take delivery and ask that Royal Mail return the package to the seller who has offered my friend a full refund.
Thanks.
Cheekster.
P.S. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it often is! :surprised:

Looks like a 64 bit PCI-X card.
So unless you have a motherbard with those slots (highly doubtful unless you have a server or high-end workstation board), it will not fit.

Many, many thanks for the quick reply!
Mr Postie arrived only moments ago and I asked if he would kindly return the package to the sender (at no cost to me!) which thankfully he agreed to. :)

I looked at getting a couple of these, but then I read up on them.
Did you know they are limited to 2TB volumes? No 2TB drives, 2TB volumes.
My advice would be to get yourself a couple of PERC 5/i's or 6/i's

Always remember to ask Hexus before ordering ! :P

I remember those 2610SA fits in PCI-32 slots, with extra fingers sticking out.
If you take pre-caution so that the bit sticking out doesn't touch the capacitor it will fit in the upper PCI slot in that Gigabyte motherboard.
Many PCI-X card DOES work on the PCI-32 slot, especially those with 66Mhz. newer 133Mhz cards tends not to be compatible however.
For example I have a 3Ware 9500S-8 that works, but a 3Ware 9550SX-8 that doesn't.

cheekster you should have kept the card it will fit and work in any standard PCI slot..Some people don't understand the pci-x and think it's pci express slot or a speacial server scsi slot.
It would have work fine.It is sata 1 speed of 150mb thou but even on the new sata 2 X58 core i7 motherboards a samsung F1 1TB will only get upto 90mb,s speeds so 2 F1 samsungs would have run fine on the 2610SA in a raid and the on board 64mb of memory would have helped a little and taken some work off the cpu.

True to a certain extent, however you are likely to run into issues with components blocking the extra length of the card connector. Also some card do not support 32bit/33mhz operation.
Never mind that, they are still limited to 2TB volumes, so really only of use with older, smaller disks. And when 1.5TB drives are the best value at the moment, it makes these cards kind of redundant.
Re: URGENT! What mobo's support Adaptec AAR 2610SA SATA/RAID Cards?
I had a 2610sa, apart from the 2tb limit it was good and very easy to recover data from a failed array (2 drives lost power, still recovered the array).
I used a mobo with pci-x but it still worked in a standard 32bit slot, but you have to remember the bandwidth limits of the pci bus.
Definitely better with a more modern card.

the AAR 2610SA is a dell/hp oem product that i cant seem to find any info on
I do use PCI-X for SAS and use the ASUS WS range of boards

The card will fit a standard 32-bit slot - some PCI-X cards however will NOT (e.g. some LSI cards). you can tell based on the number of "gaps" in the PCI connector on the card (3 gaps fits any slot, 2 gaps is PCI-X only)

There is a really good graphic on Wikipedia that shows all the variations.

A lot of compatability issues stem from 3v vs. 5v as the keying of the 32bit portion it swapped round for 5v. Some cards are universal, some are not.

While technically true it's sadly not bourne out in reality as often as it should be.
I planned to run my Adaptec SCSI PCI-X card in a 32-bit slot and it has the prerequisite slot to allow this. However the gap wasn't wide enough to accomodate the end of the PCI slot :(
I would have needed to file the connector slot wider to make it work.
In the end I went for an ASUS Worksation Mboard and run it in the correct PCI-X slot :)
