Exclamation need some power supply help

hi everyone, i just bought a new powersupply for my pc as i put my old psu into another pc. anyway i havent fitted the new psu in yet as i wanted to ask on the forum first. im not sure if its enough watts to power my pc up, the psu is an Antec phantom 500w and it has two 6-pin connectors so it will work on SLI. heres the spec of my pc:

    motherboard: asus striker extreme
cpu: intel quad q6600 G0 lapped
gpu: 2x nvidia 7900gtx in SLI
    1x 250gb 7200 rpm hdd
    2x dvd/rw drives
    5x led fans on case
fan controller, fans connected to fan controller
    usb keyboard and mouse
    20.1inch tft
    2x neons

    will this psu be ok?

Re: need some power supply help

well for a stock q6600 and 2 overclocked 7900's corsair say there 520w would do the job, based on that and antec also being very good i would say your fine.

if your cpu is overclocked you may be pusing it a bit. it should still hold up but expect it to get hot on the PSU outlet

Re: need some power supply help

is it worth me getting those cheap 800w psu's from ebay? and then adding one of those molex to 6pin pci-e converters so i can use my SLI? or shall i just stick to the Antec 500w?

Re: need some power supply help

Good lord *NEVER* get a cheap PSU from anyone.

I'd agree that 500W should power that system, but I wouldn't think about adding too much to it or trying to push any of the OCs any further.

Antec are a damn fine brand and I've never had any issue with their PSUs. 500W should power your system comfortably, but it won't give you huge headroom for expansion (then again you're alredy running SLi so there's not a lot more expansion you could do ). However, being close to full load should mean your PSU is running very efficiently . tbh you have the most sensibly-rated PSU for your system I've seen on one of these "Will this PSU be OK?" threads Stick with what you have and you should enjoy years of comfortable computing.

Re: need some power supply help

If the PSU is 500W like it says it is, you shouldn't have any problems.

Agreed, never buy a cheap PSU, you're just askin for trouble.

That PSU you got, should be fine.
