64 bit over p4s, What do you think?

I have always built systems with AMD, now I’m having some heat issue with the 3200 XP, so I’m thinking about the p4s. I heard than p4s run cooler that AMDs I have also heard that the AMD 64 bit has little to no heat issues. Is this true? I also want to know is it better to go with the 64 bit now because of the new technology over the p4? What do you think?

tis very difficult to say which to go for

both give good performance ,the p4 offers excellent overclocking ability whilke the a64 doesnt really ,the new nforce 250 chipset for the a64 is just about to hit the shops and should offer better overclocking but then they are changing the socket to 939 in the autumn but then intel is bringing out its alderwood/grantsdale chipsets and socket t soon aswell so both with be majorly out of date almost instantly

if you want guaranteed stability good overclocking options then p4

if you want a good performer out of the box ,no overclocking and unknown longterm stability then a64 ,i dont think amd is releasing many if anymore a64 cpu's either for socket 754

at i19 we were playing ONS 32 player.
Server was a dual p4 2.8, it died after 5 mins.

we went onto a pc with amd64 fx51 and it rocked all game long.

if thats not enuff to persuade you ( a pc cpu stuffing a dedicated server) then i dont know what will !

AMD's do run cooler, offer in most cases superior performance and come in at a similar price point. The move to 939 is further way than most people think and Intels next CPU's a rumoured to have integrated memory controllers which will close the performance gap imo.

I would choose the AMD A64 over a P4 nearly everytime.

Overclocking an A64, the best I managed was my 3400XP upto 2.4Ghz, thats from 2.2Ghz ... it might not seem alot but because of the way they work they don't need to be overclocked alot to gain alot of speed

I have just sold a 2.4c and IC7G max III which ran at 3gig and bought a a64 3200+ and gigabyte K8N-Pro.
Although it is running at stock I already have a 10-12fps difference in X2.
I have yet to experience a single crash on my AMD system, but more importantly, it's as quiet as a mouse
I would reccomend one of these babies

MS have a 120day trial ... just google for it!

I remember when we got the FX51 review I managed to grab a copy of an early release XP64 then and I didn't think it was that great, apart from the cool logos. I'd just stick with XP untill final release of XP64 or till they really start switching things over.

Does XP 64 run like fast as hell with Athlon 64 then? Im thinking of getting one of
those A64 Processors myself, cant decide on A64 3000+, 3200+ or 3400+ (expensive) I also hear of these FX 51, but boy unless they go doooooooown by May, its outta my reach!

The FX range will NOT change in price at all.... just clock speeds i.e FX51-->FX53 and the price is staying at the same value for this transition. I would recommend an A64 3200+ as this has a great price and performs like a bat outta hell

Ok with all the talk about the 64 bit speed I can't help but to go back to heat. What about the heat? Is there any heat issues?
