    Upgrade time. On the cheap??

Pondering doing an upgrade in preparation for Arma2, also my XP installed is arsed so running on win7 at the moment and need to sort the HDs out.

Current setup is Opteron 146 (S939) based, so obviously the cpu, mobo and memory will be going. But I will keep my 8800GT, HDs, case, PSU, etc.

So whats a good MOBO, CPU and RAM to go for at the moment? Budget is around £150-200, will be running win7, main usage is photo editing and games. Happy to OC. might get a soundcard as an additional item, any pointers there (not creative).

    Cheers

Could get a 780G based mobo. X3 720 black edition and 4GB of RAM for £200

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Asus-...-RAID-uATX-VGA
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-P...che-95W-Retail
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-(...d-CAS-5-5-5-18

Comes in a little bit over but that doesnt take advantage of deals etc.. which could lop off as much as £15.

I'd also get teh -EM version of that mobo for ebuyer.

Re: Upgrade time. On the cheap??

I would also look at getting a 760G based motherboard as it has the slightly improved SB710 southbridge over the SB700 in the 780G:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Asus-...Board-VGA-HDCP

The SB710 supposedly has ACC like the SB750 so in theory you maybe able to unlock the X3 although it seems whether ACC can be enabled is due to the manufacturer of the motherboard.

If you are overclocking I suspect the following 770 mothebroard(which has the SB700) would be a good choice:
