The X3 710 is a great performer and it is pretty cheap ~ £90ish. It overclocks well too, go for this than the Phenom 2 dual cores.

512MB Palit Gts 250 £80
320Gb Samsung Spinpoint F1 £33
4Gb OCZ DDR3 RAM £58
Corsair 450W HX £55
Coolermaster RC-331 £30
RAM from Ebuyer and the processor from Dabs. All the rest from scan. All comes to £402
Why dont you spend an extra £20 and get an ati 4870?
I toyed with the idea but the 4870 seems to run a lot hotter and be overkill for my 1440x900 display. I mean most things are a step up from my Radeon 9700 PRO AGP card im running
Thats not overkill, I have a 4870X2 2GB on a 1680*1050 monitor Also its only £20 more, significantly more powerful and will allow you to bump all the eye candy at that res (max AA and AF).
Get the xfx version on scan for £98 with a 2 year warranty, you know you want to
Or should i spend the extra £5 for the XXX edtion or is it not worth it? Only other worry is will I fry it with the case I will use or should it be fine?
What about the GTX 260 in place of the HD 4870. I was looking at the XFX GTX 260 Standard at Scan.
Similar performance and great noise/heat from the 260 BUT, XFX aren't the best name around here and they certainly wouldn't get any of my money.
Thanks
Would the Corsair 450w HX Power supply run a GTX 260 or should i go for somthing a bit more beefier?
I was looking at moving up to the Corsair 550W VX for £10 more but im open to any other suggestions.
Just last quick check before on bits before I buy.
