I personally wouldn't get that PSU, but its seems to have had fairly decent reviews on ebuyer.

Something like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150596 may be better.

    Re: New Build

    These motherboards are better:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145753

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148368

The 740G motherboard will reduce the HT frequency of the X2 7850+ whereas the Nvidia 8300 and ATI 780V will not do this.

I would get an HD4830 as this is much faster than a 9600GT and is around the same speed as a 9800GT:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159710

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159719

I would look at getting this case and power suppl combo:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161317

    This PSU even better:

    Re: New Build

Get Radeon HD4770 video card, they are very power efficient, and perform only 10% less than HD4850.

The Radeon HD4770 also uses GDDR5 memory.

Also why you want Athlon X2 ? for gaming ? it's not all that, look for either Phemon II X2 or Pentium Dualcore like E5200 or better.

Scan is doing a great deal on Phenom II right now.

It may be GDDR5, but it is on a 128-bit interface, the 4830 like CAT advised is on a 256Bit with GDDR3

and i think if you can stretch it, do what i did get a 4850 they are better than them both. and only a £10 pounds more.

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/512MB...VI-XXX-EDITION

it also has a brilliant cooler on it allowing you for a decent overclock...

    http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=17578&page=9

ignore the price its still 85 pounds, with this card your up there with a 9800GTX+ and the GTS 250.
and on the temps section on the review you can really see how the XFX cooler works wonders.

also the 4850 is in line with the 8800GTX and if you can cast your mind back was in the 300/400 pound section once upon a time.

    Re: New Build

The HD4770 is around 10% faster than the HD4830 but is priced at around £80. Both cards have 640 stream processors. However this makes the HD4830 a much better value card and they also tend to be very good overclockers too. My HD4830 can overclock from 575mhz for the core to between 650mhz to 700mhz. The Sapphire HD4830 actually clocks down a lot in 2D mode and has lower idle power consumption than even an HD4770!! The HD4770 has better peak power consumption but considering the HD4830 is around £65 to £70 and many of them come also come with aftermarket coolers it makes them excellent value for money. Also the HD4770 is in very short supply unfortunately too. Also the HD4850 is dropping in price too and is faster than both the HD4830 and HD4770.

I would also look at getting the Athlon II X2 250 or Phenom II 550BE too if you can afford them as these will give better framerates in games.

    Re: New Build

It is pretty hard to get a 4770 at the minute, scan are compleltly out, and the best ebuyer has is a 4670, so if your in a rush and really want to save the money then go with CATs advice, its always good advice. personally i would spend that extra 10 pounds and then overclock it to justify yourself spending that £10.

In call of duty 4 the 4850 beats the 4830 by 15FPS at 1440x900

In the same res for crysis the 4850 beats the 4830 by 11FPS

and they are not overclocked and not the XFX XXX version i advised you to go for

so the FPS keeping them apart can be higher.

    Re: New Build

I'd recommend http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166037 (ASROCK AMD 770) above the GeForce 8300 personally. If you're worried about the provenance of an ASROCK board you could go for http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159073 which is Gigabyte's UD3-implementation of 770 (it's supposedly more robust and longer lasting...). Both are cheaper than the GeForce-based board you have chosen, and might save you enough for one of the Athlon II X2 250 or Phenom II X2 550, rather than the older Athlon 7850.

Graphics-wise I'd go with http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159719, which is the XFX 4830 (only £71, an absolute steal) - there's no competition from NVidia at that price (9800GT starts at £80).

    Re: New Build

The 4830 is a lot better and only £3 more expensive, so it is not worth getting it.

    Re: New Build

To confirm that point, read Hexus's 4830 review. It narrowly outperforms the 9800GT, putting it in a completely different class to the 9600GT.

    Re: New Build

I have an HD4830 and it is better than my old HD3870(which was out of service for a while since I dropped it). The HD3870 is better than the 9600GT with AA off and the latter takes a narrow lead with AA on. The HD4*** solved the AA issues and hence the 9600GT does not stand a chance TBH. The main advantage of the 9600GT is its lower power consumption. However the Sapphire HD4830 on Ebuyer for around £66 has the lowest power consumption figures I have seen for any HD4830 card and HD4830 cards are known to be very good overclockers too.
