1gb Twinmos W/Winbond PC3200 or 512mb of something faster?

I dont wanna spend over £180 total on a pair of sticks, but what to choose?

Currently im running in between 220 and 230 fsb with my twinmos/winbond pc3200 512mb, i had decided to upgrade to 1gb memory but then got caught in indecision AFTER id sold my current ram.
Is 1gb really gonna be used? (thinking ahead to doom3 and HL2) Or would 512mb of something faster be more usefull? Ill be running the ram in my system in my sig for a while (overclocked) and then it should be going into a P4 2.8 shuttle with 9800 pro, uber gaming machine!

So......opinions, 1gb of pc3200 or 512mb of something faster? and if so....which?!

In only 1 app that I use lots would 1 gig make a big difference.....
IL2......Forgotten Battles...its LOVES memory...

I have 256 x2 running at 180 fsb.....and it was faster with 512x2 at 166 :(

Otherwise.....faster is better in my mind...which is jumbled :(

Personally i'd prefer a gig, but it depends whether you are going to get your system to 250fsb, if you are spend the money on say the twinx 4000 memory if your not don't bother and go for a gig of twinmos w/winbond.

TiG knows better than me....and he's right....unless you are gonna get monster FSB go 1gig

;) 2x256MB PC3200 and 200/400FSB is plenty enough to get the most out of the SktA platform, anything above this tends to start raking up the cost for minimal gains. 1GB will hardly make a diff at all to 99% of home users but then PC4000 on SktA is also 99% pointless and uneccessary too. SO really the gains of buying the faster RAM now would not really show until you got your P4 system where RAM is far more beneficial, how far away is that? RAM is only going to get cheaper, better and faster!

:p So I'd advise 2x256MB PC3200 TwinMOS pref with Winbond as that is awesome stuff for the asking price and easily able to get top-notch perf on SktA and still plenty fine for P4 @ stock 800FSB, not too bad from what I hear running higher FSB in async although sync is obviously more ideal. Basicly 2x512MB nor PC4000 are going to be very beneficial esp factoring the cost although PC4000 will at least prove useful when you do switch to P4 and plan to o/c to 1000FSB but at the mo anything faster than DDR400-PC3200 is not a true std nor certified and you may well find DDR-II more pref when P4 time comes around. As for your listed choices:

Great stuff but 1GB isn't really beneficial to practically all home users

I don't trust OCZ and IMHO TwinMOS PC3200 Winbond will o/c to this or VERY close with a little extra voltage and higher timings

TwinMOS are great, not sure about the Twister but PC3700 is very nice and again should be fine to PC4000 with a little more voltage

Corsair TWINX512-PC4000 DDR-DIMM 512MB £165
Twin matching is uneccessary but Corsair are tops in my book, no where near worth the price they usually demand though

2 x Adata 256MB DDR PC4000 CAS 3 £120
From what I hear Adata is great stuuf for the price, somewhere above generic but below the likes of Crucial or TwinMOS
