Computer startup question

Hi guys,

When I start up my home server and push the power on button the computer powers up for about 8-9 secs then knocks off only to power on again 2-3 secs later and work fine. It has always done this.

Can anyone tell me why? :S

Is this from after it has been unplugged, as mine does as you describe after you unplug it

No its always plugged in

My PC does that when the memory is overclocked (even if only slightly). Fortunately its never switched off, so hasn't been an issue... yet

Everything in the server is at stock. No overclocking at all and the specs for it are in my sig

wat if you try shutting it down, then powering it up immediatly after?

Never heard of such a thing. The MoBo controls the power sequence though as part of the ATX spec. So the problem would be in there somewhere. Way beyond my technical abilities though.

damn, I thought that it may be something that would not "cold" boot. Maybe something draws a large amount of power/current when booting, and the mobo/PSU shuts down to prevent damage, then fires it up a second time. Jus speculating tho, but you could try removing all fans (one at a time), and see if that helps, trying the GPU, possibly any HDD/CD drives, and/or RAM.
