    Biostar TP45HP

I'm about to purchase a Biostar TP45HP motherboard but it has a molex connection (J1) on the motherboard just above the PCI slots, which I'm unsure what it is used for. Do you connect molex cable direct from the PSU to it or does it supply power to other components like the graphics card. Is it even needed?

I believe that it's only necessary when two graphics cards are installed, and yes it comes from a molex direct from the PSU. Just check the manual when it arrives if you aren't sure - I checked the manual for my old P35-DQ6 to find out what it was for, and that's what I found out.

I've not need to use it on my mobo. Not quite sure what its for but can check in the manual when I get home.

Do you still need to connect a molex cable if both graphics cards are powered directly from the PSU. I've checked the manual online and all it says is that it is an auxiliary power for graphics cards. No further information is given.

    Re: Biostar TP45HP

Primarily, big graphics cards draw power from the PSU's PCIe power connectors. But you may need the molex connector to provide power from the PCIe slot, your mileage may vary.

    Re: Biostar TP45HP

Yes, as far as I know it's advisable to use the extra molex power if you're using two graphics cards - might not have to, but is there any good reason not to bother?

Ugly cable running across your motherboard?

But yes, in cases where motherboards don't use the ATX2.2 motherboard power connectors, use of the molex connector to supply power to two PCIe cards is highly advisable.

    Re: Biostar TP45HP

Well, fair enough in that case

I've always rated stability over aesthetics when it comes to my PC, and neither have I ever understood the attraction of looking at its internals through a wad of perspex, so I guess I just wouldn't "get it"... I think I can deal with it though .
