Microphone problems

hello,

I recently purchased an analog mic to use with my PC (http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/930938...e/Product.html).

However, when I have it plugged in (to the "flexi-jack" on my X-Fi card), I get a hissing sound from my speakers. Further, I any sounds I make I hear come out of the speakers. I get feedback from time to time too.

Why is this happening? Any ideas on how I can prevent it?

It might be relevant by the way, that when I tried hooking up a cassette player that (through a variety of different ports on the I/O console) I get exactly the same effect. Is this a simple configuation issue?

it's your sound card, it has the microphone LIVE and it should be muted.
(speech and comms software unmutes it automatically for you when you use it to talk)

Go into Control Panel, find the sound card options, find the Microphone option and MUTE it.

mute it under playback settings, not record or you will never be heard from again !

Like this. And you might have to edit some volume setting under "Manage Audio Devices" in control panel.
