    Wierd POST fault. Explaination anyone?

    Hi all,

This is related to my other post re a new PSU. This morning I turned on the computer, and just the HDD light came on permanently - not the power light. A few on-offs had the same result. Assuming in the first instance, something had gone wrong with the PSU, I put in a spare, known to be working. This time the computer POSTed, with power light but only until the CPU was detected. No RAM check. Nothing, frozen. Repeated restarts resulted in the same. Cleared BIOS, same result. Pulled out all drives and it POSTED fine. Replaced drives one-by-one and all was fine up until the computer was rebuilt, all working fine.

Was that just a dodgey PSU? but if so, why didn't the new one just work fine straight away? If the BIOS had got confused, why didn't a simple clear work? Any thoughts?

All working OK now though, but on the hunt for a stop-gap PSU until my next build in a year.....

    Cheers!

Sounds like just a dodgy HDD cable connection. If it's part connected it could cause an error that either fully connected or fully disconnected would clear.
